Das Boot about a German U-boat (submarine) crew is an interesting choice and also a top film.

Yes, that was a great war movie which taught about the immorality of war.  So was Stalingrad.  Everyone should see Stalingrad.  It showed the utter cruelty and brutality of war.

The Top Ten off the top of my head:

    Saving Private Ryan
    Beneath Hill 60 (WW1)
    Porkchop Hill (Korea)
    We Were Soldiers
    Bridge Over The River Kwai
    The Longest Day
    Kelly's Heroes
    Battlefield
    Gettysburg (Civil War)
    Full Metal Jacket

I highly recommend Kelly's Heroes if you need a laugh. I got memories of watching that movie as a kid with my dad.

    Saving Private Ryan
    A Bridge Too Far
    The Longest Day
    The Cruel Sea
    The Dirty Dozen
    Where Eagles Dare
    The Battle of Britain
    The Battle of the Bulge
    Midway
    Bridge on the River Kwai

So far this is looking like the best answer, just as my own personal opinion. I need to watch some of these movies that others have suggested, because I don't think I have seen some of them. Bridge on the River Kwai and Where Eagles Dare are great.
