What celebrity, superhero, or other pop-culture icon did you emulate, love, or worship as a kid?

    1. Why did you you emulate, love, or worship him/her/it?
    2. How did you express this feeling?
    3. What age were you?
    4. Looking back on it now, how do you feel about that icon now?
    5. What do you currently think of yourself back then?

I learned to read at our library which had a stack of comic books, so I was a Marvel Comics fan from way back. My favorite character then was Thor - Norse God of thunder who was a member of the Avengers. My friends and I took bed sheets and made capes out of them and used to skateboard down the street pretending we were that superhero team. Guess who I was?

I grew up in the 70's and very early 80's...and my one heroine was the 'Bionic Woman'.  I joined her fan club, had posters, got her action figure. I didn't want to miss one show of hers...I thought she was so very cool! It was nice to have a stong woman figure to look up that didn't necessarily have to be really sexy and show tons of skin. (like 'Wonder Woman' -though I loved when she spun around to change into her 'Wonder Woman' outfit!!). I still to this day (every once in a while) make the 'Bionic Woman' ear sounds...I push back my hair like she did and make the sounds when I want to hear something far away ...my kids just think I am nuts and my husband smirks!

Mine was Batman, a the caped avenger and savior of Gotham city. The reason for me liking him so much was the fact that he was a normal guy, unlike Spider man or Superman, all he had was his Belt and really awesome gadgets, so out of all of the Super Hero's I knew as a kid the only one that seemed could actually become real. I love you run around the play ground and climb to the highest spot, and look down and imagine I was seeking out the Baddies. I must have been around 7, looking back on it now, I miss those days, wow life seemed so much easier, everything was a game. I still think Batman is cool, and with the new release of Batman with awesome graphics it's even more shocking than my 7 year old imagined back then.

Actually there were six of them.
    1) Batman: My very first comic book was a Batman book. He has been my favorite comic book character and always will be. So much can be said for the Dark Knight, let's just say that the evidence for Batman is stacked against all others.
    2) Captain Marvel: C'mon. Who as a kid, wouldn't want to be a Superman-like character by just saying one magic word? He, too, has the preponderance of facts and pure cool going for him.
    3) Captain America: This guy symbolises America, what more do you need? He epitomizes fairness, truth, justcie, integrity, and honesty in a wrold of compromise and gray areas.
    4) Superman: Stronger than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Childs play now for the last son of Krypton!
5)Green Lantern and The Flash: tied just for sheer cool abilities and cooler outfits ( golden, silver and modern ages.) Intelligent writing over the past couple of decades have brought these guys into the forefront of adventure.

The only person that I worshiped as a child was God almighty.  Sure I had favorite cartoons, but I did not let them take oever my life to the point of worshiping them.
