There's a guy in our church who plays acoustic guitar, electric guitar and piano and electric keyboard. Quite talented, I think! So go for both and if you find you don't like one as much, drop that one.

Piano.  It teaches you to play several instruments.  It is much harder to translate guitar skills to piano.  Learning piano teaches you how to read music.  Learning guitar can, but most people usually learn to read tabs which isn't even close to the same thing.

I was forced to take piano lessons as a child.  I hated playing at concerts and quit after 6 long years.  I later picked up a banjo, then a guitar, and took a few cracks at the fiddle.

The piano lessons taught me much about the chords and music theory so now I'm glad suffered through them.  But not the concerts, they were agonizing.  I did play rock and roll professionally for many years for people, but that was for fun and profit.

Both instruments are not that difficult to play but it is easier and cheaper to buy and store a guitar.

I was desperate to learn the piano when I was a child, but my parents had neither the room nor the money to grant my wish.

50 years later, I in turn have neither the room or the money.

I did learn classical guitar and love it. I also love playing violin with my West Gallery quire.

But I still wish I could learn piano.

Can't play either very well, but seems to me that Piano gives you heart while guitar gives you soul.

Guess depends on what you need and want!
