This is a two-part question. FIRST, imagine that you were starting a rock/alternative band. You have to call it something, don't you? Give me a list of three to five cool band names. Here's mine: 1) The Zombie Mermaid Queens; 2) The Melody Mechanism; 3) Moondragon; 4)Auroris Borealis; 5) The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. SECOND, I'd like to know about the bands you follow. What role did the band's name have in drawing you in or turning you off at the outset?

      The Dark Angels

      One Planet

      Dirty Dogs

      Innocence

      Crapped Out

Metallica, Def Leppard, Van Halen, Styx.
I just like their music.  The names don't mean a thing.

    2) eSCape factor
    3) Done
    4) Over the Top
    5) Wise
    6) Egress

(I could go on and on)  I don't really follow any bands but I always liked Hot Tuna and The Tubes mainly for their names.

You see, Daffy Duck? Names can have an impact! On the one hand, you came up with a great list of names in your frst comment. Then you wrote about some bands you like: "The names don't mean a thing."

But now, in response to mega1 first offering Out of tUnes, you declare that it is a great name, which it is.

Now if you don't mind my asking: What does that name evoke for you? Since you think Out of tUnes is a great name, suppose a band actually came out calling itself that. Because it is a name you like so much, would you therefore, be predisposed to give them a chance, or even go out of your way to check out their music because of that name?

No I wouldn't.  It's like a mountain climber being named Rocky Canyon. I wouldn't trust them anymore than someone else to lead me up a mountain safely.   I wouldn't give anyone a chance because of their name.  I just think it's a great name for a band.

I think there must be an OCD disorder that involves constant thinking up of titles and names for things - never going any further with it, just the names.  Now that you've pushed my button I will be thinking of names for things all day - some clever, some not - and later when I try to remember them they will be gone - gone.  It is not funny! big_smile
