   "This morning Steve Benen speculated that Republicans were blocking the tax extenders/jobs/unemployment insurance bill in order to wreck the economy to try to boost their chances at the ballot box in November.
   
   In a conference call with reporters today, Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) accused them of doing just that. She explained that, after spending "days and days and days, and weeks and weeks and weeks" to get just one Republican to join with Dems in passing the legislation, "it's very clear that the Republicans in the Senate want this economy to fail. They see that things are things are beginning to turn around.... We're gaining jobs, not as much as we need, but thing are beginning to move in the right direction.... In cynical political terms it doesn’t serve them in terms of their elections if things are beginning to turn around."
   
   She continued, "In addition to just taking a general position of 'no' to everything, they are protecting wealthy investors, corporations that are sending jobs overseas, and oil companies," because in addition to extending unemployment benefits and providing aid to states for Medicaid and other programs, it has provisions that tax investors, ends tax incentives for corporations that outsource jobs overseas, and raises the fee oil companies are charged for the oil spill liability fund from $.08/barrel to $0.49. 
   
   She also complained about the moving target that meeting Republican concerns has become. When asked what happens if the cloture vote fails, she said "We'll put it temporarily aside. We don't have any other choice. We've met every objection on the other side and every time we've done that they've changed the concerns." She said that, specifically Sen. Snowe has had "numerous issues," that she insisted be addressed, and that "they keep changing" as Dems try to answer them. It's cruel, legislative whack-a-mole."
   
   
   You see you great Americans? It's all just as Gingrich advised.....say no to everything until the mid-terms in November. No matter how many Americans go hungry, lose their homes,their jobs, have 0 income....Just DO IT, so We can "save them" and get back in power.

      The Democrats are just using this to score political points. They tacked on a few things that the Republicans didn't like and had nothing to do with extending welfare.
      
      The Democrats will milk this for a while saying that Republicans are "not helping all the poor people because they are evil tyrants and the party of no OMG!" and then they will take out the objectionable provisions and then the bill will pass.

               Wrong again. Unemployment compensation is paid from accounts funded by an experience-rated tax paid on wages by employers based on the stability or instability of their employment. In Michigan the minimum tax for unemployment compensation is under one percent and the maximum is, last I checked, around 13 %. The experience-rated tax is designed to encourage employers, where possible, to plan ahead to avoid hiring and laying off. In addition to assisting people who are involuntarily unemployed and seeking work, the State-Federal Unemployment System serves a counter-cyclical economic stabilizing function which helps avert recessions.
               
               This system has nothing to do with what is commonly called "welfare" which is funded out of general revenues. Of course you are correct that unemployment compensation adds to the general welfare by aiding people in need.

         The GOP filibuster against an extension of unemployment benefits will mean that benefits for one million Americans unemployed for six months will expire.

      Of course it's in the republicans interest to see the dems fail, as it is in the democrats interests to portray the republicans as the party of no. Both parties are trying to secure the power wealth and prestige of being part of the American government.
      
      That aside, what makes sense? What problem is the government trying to fix? Unemployment? That isn't fixed by giving people free money that was stolen from someone else. That problem is fixed by creating an environment of prosperity which isn't accomplished by using taxpayers money to create temporary government jobs, or passing regulation that punishes saving and investment.

      There are some good points in this bill..but IMO, Obama has it in for Wall Street and big banks.. He wants them submissive to his control..and will make it so one way or the other..

   The Repubs are trying to make this administration account for and show where they will pay for such bills as the unemployment extention bill...I understand this with the astronomical deficit that our Country is facing now with all of the Government spending that has been happening. Our government needs to cut useless programs in order to allow for funding of the unemployment bill...and WE NEED JOBS!!! More than anything else, AMERICANS NEED JOBS!! Americans want to work, but can't find jobs to support themselves..this administration is so busy with their agenda, they have ignored the things America really needs...immigration reform, jobs, fast response for emergency disasters, more forces in Afghanistan..in my opinion, it is all about the progressive agenda and setting their bills, health care, cap & trade, financial reform, takeover of automobile industry, banking bailouts and such that are facilitating their agenda towards socialism and larger government.
   
   Another victory for Obama, yes, for Americans, not so sure..
   Repubs the party of no...maybe...NO MORE SPENDING!!

      When there is light at the end of the recession tunnel is the time to start balancing the budget by cutting programs and/or raising taxes. The Republicans either are ignorant about mainstream macro-economics or they are trying to take advantage of the inclination of many Americans to think about the national deficit and debt in the same way they regard their own personal budget. This is understandable but mistaken and could result in a double dip recession or worse. Concern about the national debt is justified, but now isn't the time to raise taxes or cut spending.

   They are attempting to block it because there is nothing in place to fund it.
   
   The Democrats use this issue as a tactic to try and make the Republicans the bad guys. Both sides are playing Politics while the American People are getting bent over.  It's no win.  No jobs... means people need something.  No funding means more borrowing and spending which can not be repaid.
   
   When everyone is finally on the Government payroll there will be no one willing to wean themselves from the socialism and the system will collapse under it's own weight.
   
   Both parties are screwing us over.  That's the sad reality.
   
   All of these issues mean nothing.  The fact is the Federal Reserve and Fractional Reserve Banking system are the true root cause of our collapse.
   
   Americans are slaves to debt.  And neither party is doing anything to address the real core issue.
   
   When you let a group of secretive private bankers control the money supply this is what you get.
   
   And if you don't think it's a secret organization then you need to do a little research.

   Well, there is talk on the net that they are taking the fed down, and replacing it with a metals backed monetary system.
   Talk is that's why all the death and destruction is happening....the fed isn't going down easy...they're throwing a big murderous hissy fit.
   
   Apparently there are ancient, ancient societies that have had it up to here with this mess, and are no longer willing to stay quite.
   It's kind of like this guy I work with from Nepal...he says the Ghurka warriors are the best in the world.
   Along that line.
   Or even think of Kill Bill.
