I used to be religious then my IQ surpassed my age!

As a kid, I was bought up in a religious household, or at least half of it was. My mother was a convent educated catholic, my dad had no interest in religion as I recall he never mentioned it.
Mom made up for that, offering the usual religious threats of hell fire and brimstone.
Later in life as a young man, I worked closely with an evangelical christian, and at his bequest decided to do a two year bible study coarse with his guidance. (This guy could sell ice to Eskimos.)
I got totally involved and when I started my own business I joined the christian businessman's committee as a foundation member in a new chapter of this worldwide organisation.

As an impressionable young man I studied furiously to learn all I could as a "born again" christian. All that reading got me hungry for reading in general and I started to gain an adult education.
    That ended religion for me.
As soon as I read and understood psychosis, projections, symbols and archetypes, I moved on to brain chemistry.

I learned the structure of religiosity in the mind just as quickly as I had learnt to become a religionist.
I have been free from it ever since. Better than giving up anything else, even smoking! smile
    Watcha think about that?

well i dont know about what leads people to be in religion or leave it...is it about intelligence and iq?..may be it is bcoz humans seek assurance ..some external agent for reassuring?

I agree with you Joy and Habee, My life was the other way around I got a predoctoral degree in Psychology.. I thought I had it all... Until I read the Bible for myself... (Until then it was because of my upbringing) I found that every truth has been pinched from the Bible and people came up with stuff they claimed to be their own discovery.  Now I have completely turned myself to the Word of God and I see his power at work all the time!!
You can only see the world  through the lenses that you use. No more tinted ones for  me!!!

I wish it were Scotch. I can't afford to open it now. It being very old with an unbroken seal, it is very valuable. One day I just may though. But I need a lot of help with it, a whole gallon's worth of help. big_smile

God to Adam - Do not eat this fruit. It is forbidden. Understand?

    Adam - Okay. (God leaves.)

Adam to Eve - God said not to eat that forbidden fruit.

Eve - We have forbidden fruit?? No way!

    Adam - Way!

Eve - Let's try it! (So they do.)

God returns - Did you eat the forbidden fruit after I told you not to?

Adam - She made me do it!

    Eve - Did, too!

    Adam - Did not!

See? Even God had trouble with his kids.

Well, Ern, I think you got it right.

The vast majority of the religious types I have encountered have not been particularly good adverts for religion.

It's not that they lack intelligence, but they seem to lack common sense. What person after all, would spend what feels like an eternity on a stranger's doorstep trying to 'sell' the occupant religion when clearly they're not interested.

After the occupant has exhausted all the pleasant methods of asking them to leave, they find they're still being confronted with something in sensible shoes and thicker skin than the average elephant. The only way to get rid of them is to be rude and close the door in their face - or worse.

There's no way I could ever treat a stranger in their own home that way. It's just not cricket, old boy.

No. Religion is definitely out for me I'm afraid. Don't want to be associated with anyone with a fish on their car and a lack of common decency towards their fellow man.
