I am a member of Rottentomatoes.com, and I have reviewed over 100 movies, and one of them was Brokeback Mountain. The movie was also reviewed by thousands of other RT members, some of who praised it, while others simply stated it was too long and boring.
I really liked the movie. I could go on and say why I liked it, but, since the movie is a few years old, I thought it would be more interesting to get feedback from people who liked, or didn't like it, and why.
I'll just say that it was very moving, and a refreshing change from those movies that portray gay men as limp wristed screaming queens. And, since there were no drag queens in the movie, no disco, and little drug use. I enjoyed it a lot.
Would like to hear some decent opinions.
I did enjoy this movie, it wasn't a 'mushy' type love affair. I like that it spanned the years. For those who were afraid of it (and I know there are a lot) there were only a couple 'ewwww' scenes but needed to be in there for the purpose of the movie.
I may have to watch it again to refresh my memory...
Thanks for your responce. As for the movie not being mushy, I agree with you on that one. I think there was an equal amount of mushyness between the main male charactors, are there was just as much mushyness between the lead roles and the roles played by the wives...but, there was a huge difference in the nudity. As the women were shown nude more than the men. (BOOOO!!!! LOL!!!!)
I think the director was wise for shying away from the sexual aspect of the movie, and keeping that part "light". But, had no problem sharing the intimate side of just a little cuddling and a kiss. Romance was certainly in the air, but, it was only shared with the audience in glances. And, I think that is what made it so special, and why the actors in the movie were brilliant in their roles.
Aside from it's mushyness. I thought it was a really good story. I think the men could have easily been straight, with no romatic involvement between them at all, and I still would have liked the movie. They were friends and lovers until the end. It was a very sad ending, but it would have been just as sad if the men were straight.
Men are very emotional, they just have a hard time showing it.
I really enjoyed the storyline in Brokeback Mountain. The love story was very realistic yet complex by definition.
I was impressed that my blue-collar, very straight hubby enjoyed the movie, too.
I found it ok but a bit boring, I would guess that the special interest was of little interest to me and so it looked just a re-run of so many other love stories - which I guess was the point really

I am a gay man, and I have been watching a lot of gay themed movies which I feel kind of sad and angry after watching them, because of the way that it hits home in my own life. Mainly because I am not one bit like the charactors in those films, and know a lot of gay men who aren't like them...

There are tons of movies that have a part 1, 2, and up to 12 sequels in a series. And, some are really good, and some are just absolute crap. My question is, what movie do you like, that you think deserves another movie to complete it, or to continue the series.I would like to see them do a sequel...
