Bill O'Reilly of Fox News sat down with President Obama for a little "chat" at the White House.
O'Reilly seemed to be trying to walk a fine line between badgering and respect for the person he was interviewing (in other words, he didn't get to be his usual O'Reilly self).
But he tried repeatedly to trap Obama.
Obama refused to give up anything. Which is to say, it was a non-interview.
At the end, I kinda went, "So... is that all there is?"
If you watched it, what was your impression?
I wish I'd seen it, do you think that there is a youtube video of it yet? Mostly, I completely boycott television and radio. The only dumbing down or brain washing I'm open to(inadvertently) is over the web.
The interview produced nothing of value. I must say Obama came across as quite a likeable fellow... shame he's such a radical leftist... oh well you can't have everything.
It was a nice respectful interview, as intended I would imagine, with good questions that were answered with ambiguity and smiles by our President, and I am very glad you see it as a win win....... or rather a non interview from your perspective. Kind of refutes in a very big way the liberal stomp of Fox or anything other than MSNBC and CNN, etc being Fair with leftist political viewpoints. So, I suppose that means Kudos to OReilly and Fox, so thanks for making that apparent to all your readers and followers......good job!!
I don't care if the President of the United States is a nice guy. There are no extra points awarded for being nice. I want him/her to be professional and presentable in public. Competent and capable with staff and cabinet. Firm and fair with Congress. A stalwart friend to our allies and a deadly, ruthless and resourceful enemy to our enemies. I do not want him to give everyone a pony and life time supply of ice cream.
Well, my last comment of the night I will make here, and say that Obama should have had a tie on, his lack of did not in any way impress me.
I am quite tired of his wierd attempts at casual attire that fall flat with me for certain. He is our President. And far too many *folks* in this country are forced to wear a damn tie when they do not wish too, his lack shows all how important it is to be appropriately attired if you wish to be respected . . . no doubt the Brits have had some comment to make about this.
If you do not wish to wear a tie, have the venue of the interview in an environment that does not call for one, his OReilly interview environment called for a TIE.
O'Rilley was not as rude and disrespectful as the last time he interviews President Obama. Perhaps because he was at Obama's house! Hey!
You're right. He was more subdued.
Which made it seem kinda weird, actually.
I'm sure you can see a video or read transcript.
Google the interview and it will come up -- maybe on Fox News.
I suggest watching the video rather than just reading the transcript as the body language is priceless!
I thought it was one of the better interveiws of a politician I have seen.
If by trapping you mean he tried to get a straight answer out of him, I would agree. What I liked, is BR tried to cut to the chase and to Obama's credit, he gave some decent answers. BR brushed aside some of the stock answers Obama tried to give. While he was trying to straddle the fence, I thought Obama was reasonably straightforward.
It wasn't overly adversarial, but I would have like to seen more issues addressed.
I agree, the body language was interesting.
Although it was uncomfortable to watch I kinda wished it had been a longer interview. They barely scratched the surface of things...
Obama is being coached by Bill Clinton. No doubt about it when you read the interview. It's good stuff.
CJ Wright -- That's an intriguing observation.
I certainly wouldn't doubt it.
Can you cite specific answers that struck you as particularly "Clintonesque"?
"Well, The Wall Street Journal probably would paint you as a left-wing guy. I mean, if you're talking about The Wall Street Journal editorial page..."
This one, it's great political speach. It turns the question upside down and injects humor. It makes him seem funny and spontaneous. Very likeable. That was Clinton's best asset. He was likeable.
"O'REILLY: But the entitlements that you championed do redistribute wealth in the sense that they provide insurance coverage for 40 million people that don't have it."
"OBAMA: What is absolutely true is I think in this country, there's no reason why, if you get sick you should go bankrupt. The notion that that's a radical principle, I don't think the majority of people would agree with you."
Here he is not just dodging and deflecting. He's returning the serve! He's making his conter-arguments seem logical. Again this is very centrist and therefore very likeable.
Oh I thought he was admitting he's a socialist but in a nice way that most people would find reasonable.
O'Reilly was not "rude" but he was combative or at least as far as Obama would let him become combative.
I was never a fan of Obama until after the election. The man is a class act. He threw verbal reminders back to O'Reilly such as when O'Reilly mis-spoke and said when he was interviewing President Clinton. Obama politically reminded him when he was speaking with "former Presidents". Amazing O'Reilly cannot even get the titles correct or was it an intentional slip of O'Reilly?
Lady Love158 nailed it - he is a "likable fellow" and for my money, Obama will go down in history as great as former President Ronald Reagan.
A great communicator is the mark of a great leader. Obama has definitely mastered this art. While his programs remain radical, as a leader, he is excellent. The United States needs the optimism of a great communicator, needs a talented negotiator - these are the traits that Obama has exhibit - in office and in the interview with O'Reilly.
Im sure he's a nice guy but he'll be the worst president ever... certainly he is not a great communicator otherwise he wouldn't have used the excuse that he didn't explain his health care bill adequately as the reason it lacked support by the public.
Ah, I see.
And he handled the question about whether he had become more centrist during his first 2 years he handled similarly. He didn't quite "dodge" it but didn't admit he has come to the middle.
I think my favorite question was about how does Obama feel knowing so many people don't like him -- and in the middle of it, O'Reilly injected -- at least twice -- "They HATE YOU!!"
I thought Obama handled that quite well.
And it's true. If you don't have a thick skin by the time you make it through the primaries and the election, you really shouldn't be in the White House.
I also thought Obama's comment that such people don't know him, and that certain people on TV -- O'Reilly included -- paint him in a way that makes people hate him. Damned right!
I think most people like him which explains why his poll numbers remain good in spite of his failed socialist policies.
Mighty Mom
OBAMA COULDN'T GIVE O'REILLY A STRAIGHT ANSWER TO THE MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD QUESTION on super bowl Sunday morning interview.
Obama danced around the question and didn't mention that the brotherhood is a radical Muslim group leading the protesters with organized labor unions in Cairo and Alexiandria, Egypt
I haven't seen the interview, but I've read comments about it on blogs. The left-wing blogs say Bill treated the POTUS with disrespect, and the right-wingers say Bill was far too easy on Obama. I figure from those reactions it must have been right in the middle. lol
