Have only just discovered this but it opened my eyes as to the types of ads G is serving up on my hubs and other sites.

    Here's what to do:

    1. Sign in to your AdSense account.
    2. Under the AdSense Setup tab, visit the Ad Review Centre page.

There will be a list of categories with two columns against them - % of recent earnings and % of recent ad impressions. (These are the only categories they allow you to block ads from)

I was kind of shocked at what they showed - for instance 4.9% of all ads they served were in the religious category - only I have no religious material, and not surprisingly the % of earnings for that category were zero. In fact there was only one category where the % of earnings were higher than the % of impressions.

I guess the crappy ads are down to people like scientologists buying up all sorts of inappropriate keywords.

Select the categories you want to block and click submit

Apparently they have had this facility since 2007, but have only just found out about it.  mad

Anyway - hope this helps other hubbers.

mine has sex as best earnings & religion as next best.  So does that mean I should keep those?

In the new interface you can find it under "Allow and block ads".

And yes, it's interesting what categories bring in the best earnings.

Hey, thanks Silver Rose! I obviously failed to look closely enough at my adsense options; guess I thought it would be something (else...) on which Google wanted to be the sole arbiter. As an aside, (before I rush away to see what categories I can influence) I recently published a hub about marriage. ie the happy, fulfilling, for life, kind of marriage.

More to do with society than Google I think, all the adsense ads it's attracted have been about 'how to get your share when you break up', 'how to flirt online' (advice for married women),'First steps toward divorce' etc.. Logical when you think about it, I suppose, but I'd have liked to see stuff for wedding anniversary gifts, or eternity rings, even flowers...

    Thanks again for the tip.
