President Obama had decided to not release photos taken of Osama Bin Laden after his death. Reaction to this has been mixed. John Boehner, Lindsey Graham, and several other prominent Republicans have come out in support of the decision, while Sarah Palin has tweeted that he should stop "pussy-footing around" and releasing the photos is "part of the mission".
What does everyone think about this? Should the death photos be released to deter conspiracy theories and perhaps scare other would-be terrorists, or is releasing them tasteless and more likely to cause anti-American violence around the world?
I believe the whole truth needs to come out..The photos should be released. if they do not release the pictures, suspicion and distrust of Obama and our country will just increase.. We've seen so much in horror movies, that I doubt were going to be that shocked..and parents can prevent their children from seeing the pictures..
What truth could possibly learned from the photos? We already know he was shot in the head, so that can't be learned.
Some will say the photos are fake, some will claim they are not - nothing to be learned there, either.
If the photos are released suspicion and distrust will increase; if they are not released suspicion and distrust will increase. Nothing to be gained either way.
The only result I can see is that if they are released it puts Americans on par with the terrorists that drag dead bodies around cities as some kind of medal - I would prefer not to have that reputation with the rest of the free world. What the terrorists think is of no concern to me.
I don't think we need to send a message to the world that we are on the same level as other cultures who would gladly release videos/photos of executions to the media.
There are always going to be some who will claim it never happened, and then there will be others who come to more rational conclusions.
Perhaps releasing pictures of an old sick unarmed man with a bullet hole in his face would not sit so well with Obama's Nobel Peace prize.
Maybe not. The only things that truly bothers me is that he apparently didn't suffer enough. He was afforded the easy way out via a military bullet.
I notice you are from Europe. I lived there (attended university) in France. And while my views are typically considered "liberal," I am a hardcore conservative on the Bin Laden issue. You would have had to have lived through that nightmare in order to appreciate the full effect. Unfortunately, both morally and financially-speaking, the US may never be the same - post 9/11.
I personally don't care if the photos are released to the media or general public. Some people will claim that it will incite more terrorist attack. Some people will use the opportunity to do whatever it is they can to manipulate the situation, either way, to their own advantage.
The public's willful ignorance about Government and Politicians as a whole is becoming taxing on the rest of society. It's getting to a point where it is ridiculously dangerous, just to walk outside.
Too many people literally living in fear, which is precisely where outsides of the United States want the people and as does the politicians, so they are more easily manipulated into doing specific things.
It doesn't matter if photos are released or not, some people will still make a conspiracy that he is not dead even if photos are released, then they will say the photos are fake, you cannot satisfy everyone.
President Obama is the man! Those who will not believe of Bin Ladens death , never will! We are so far above that in my oppinion. If you need proof that can be varified , then you should have been there yourself. Ever heard of Photo shop , you can make you're own!
Quite, those who believe him dead will believe it without photographic proof, those who don't want to believe him dead will argue that any photo is a forgery.
Either way, it won't make a blind bit of difference, anybody who believes that peace will break out as a result is a lot naive.
Releasing the pictures would be a bit ghoulish. Tacky. Tasteless. Borderline barbaric. I understand the burial at sea was done in a dignified way. My guess (based on my experience as a sailor) is that the crew was ordered not to pee off the back of the boat.
We got bin Laden. It's not necessary to taunt or gloat when the world is watching.
Nothing deters conspiracy theorists, as evidenced by the birther issue. We aren't the Taliban, we don't parade around our enemies' dead bodies.
I truely believe that this has always been the image of the American at war , any war , we do what we have to do ! No one wants to see these pictures , the only ones who do ......are sensationalists in mentality. The silent victory of a mission well acomplished. We do not behead , burn and drag bodies around the city. Nor do we promoted future acts of violence ......we only react to others atrocities.
It does not serve any purpose for the President to release the photos. Those photos are a sensitive issue to some people. He is dead. Let's move on people.

Conspiracy theories will run rampant regarding the death of OBL.Do you think that releasing those photo's will help quite the doubters? Do you think releasing the photos will help provide closure to the many affected by his actions? Do you think releasing the photos will only further the cause of...

If President Obama traded 5 terrorists to release Berdahl from Afghanistanthenwhy won't Obama trade a few thousand illegal Mexicans residing in the US for the release of the imprisoned marine Tahmooressi?

It appears to me that the torture issue, as Frank Rich observed in today's NY Times, is "bigger" than Obama. Rich's Op-ed provides a concise summary of where the issue currently stands. In my opinion, Obama had better get out from in front of the train! Here's a link to Frank Rich's...

Apparently a lot of Republicans think so. Here are the results of an NBC News poll:A recent NBC News Survey Monkey poll found that a whopping 72 percent of Republicans have doubts about Obama's citizenship and 41 percent are emphatic that he was foreign born. Meanwhile, 31 percent are unsure if he...

How did President Obama get the scar on his skull?A few times over the last months when the President is on television I've noticed a scar on his skull. A friend suggested he may have had an accident in his youth but I haven't heard about any accident he experienced so am still curious. Does anyone...

Does anyone really believe there is any good reason for doing this? What is wrong with this man? Is he trying to prove all the bad things said about him being one of them is true? Don't we all know what these terrorists are going to do as many of the others have and return to the battle against us...
