I've heard this before. You'd think that banner ads would get a user's attention more.
I have read before that picture adverts are more likely to get clicks.
That is really an interesting question. I'm not sure of actual statistics, but I tend to click banner and picture adverts rather than text adverts. I would be interested to see the actual statistics.
It's contextual, you can only ever really be sure with testing. I have seen it go both ways.
I have created my own ads inside Adsense, and I found that experimenting with colours of text in text ads showed promise. If the colour scheme of the website and the colour of test ads are harmonized, there is more of a likelihood they will be clicked by viewers. And against a white paper / page background seems to work well. I am experimenting with a non-white background on one site to see it it takes....
You just have to experiment, and watch your analytics on Google a d Adsense close. The presence of other ads like amazon or affiliates can throw results off a wee bit too.
Banner ads can do well sometimes. They both seem to work for me. Just my experience...

Big, fat banner ads across the top of the articles. Another big, fat ad also above the fold at right. I just noticed this. I have no idea how long they have been doing it. I do know that Google hates this practice and will sooner or later open a big can of wupass. This is assuming they haven't...

I am finding that banner ads at the bottom of hubs are making it impossible for me to make comments. They take over my space. I have tried everything I know to get rid of them, but they are really aggressive. I have got to the point where I just don't even want to comment any more.

I think that when a google ad is inserted between two text capsules, it really should be a horizontal, banner style ad not a vertical ad. You can see what I mean here:http://hubpages.com/hub/Alarm-Clocks-to … out-of-BedIt creates a really big gap between capsule 1 and 2, with a bit odd bit...

I have noticed a nice increase in Hubpages CPM that has partially offset the decline in traffic, helping to maintain income. Have most people found this? I have been trying to target topics with higher Google CPC rates and I was wondering if this may have helped. Are most people seeing this?

When using HubPages on the iPad, there is a banner ad at the bottom that shifts up and end up under my finger just as I attempt to click something else. This causes the unintentional clicking of these ads. It happens when I scroll down a hub. The banner ad unexpectedly moves upward as I...
