Will this not turn into a constant battle? As an article becomes more popular, others copy your material onto their website, your articles are now tagged as 'duplicate.' Is it the Hubber's responsibility to patrol the web trying to find those who have copied their material without permission?
Material on HubPages will never fully be protected. So why bother posting on HubPages?
The article you copied from (almost completely verbatim) was published over a year ago.
We do not allow people to publish on HubPages what has already been published elsewhere on the Web.
It wasn't "copied." It was my content. Please don't accuse me of plagiarism.
I understand that posting it to other directories at an earlier date, people might have gained publishing rights to it.
Why was it approved to begin with?
You aren't being accused of plagiarism, you're being accused of using duplicated content. HubPages disallows the publication of any content that is not original to this site. That means no reused content period, even your own material.
As stated, I understand the material might not have been original to HubPages. And I understand this is why it is duplicate. Why was the article approved for publication to begin with?
And the statement "The article you copied (almost completely verbatim)" was an accusation.
Hubs are not checked for duplication of previous material before publishing. This is a relatively time consuming task and we would all like to see our "new" hub put out immediately.
As time passes and the software does its job and finds that the new hub was copied from elsewhere on the web it is unpublished.
Because the duplicate detection system is not instantaneous and all knowing. Why does it matter? The hub is a duplicate and so not allowed.
I didn't accuse you of plagiarism, and it doesn't matter, since we have a policy of not allowing content that is not unique to HubPages.
Now that you're clear on it, you can stop copying over content to HubPages (even if it's yours) and republishing your Hubs elsewhere, and take down any other Hubs that are not unique to HubPages.
Duplicate material only gets tagged duplicate material, if there is an "older" version of the material you post.
You should not be tagged for "duplicate" if someone has copied your original article. At least that's how I learned it when I came to HP. I do not know if things have changed.
Just a thought.

The article in question was "Good Title and Caption Ideas for Content Creators". Here is the link to the unpublished page at least showing the url (https://discover.hubpages.com/technology/Caption-Ideas). I published this article on 2-21-22. There is usually a 1 day wait time for...

I know hubpages prohibits writers from having duplicate content. My problem is understanding what that exactly means. I heard from many that it means writers can't publish content here that already exists elsewhere, but can publish here first and then publish it elsewhere. My concern is if I were...

Hi,I'm a brand new hubber. For my first hub, I picked an article, I wrote on my blog. I don't have any affiliate links or link to my blog. I'm not trying to promote my blog, I just thought that article might be an intresting read. I published about an hour ago, now it says...

So on May 12th, I published my article "Why is my dog smacking his lips?". It comes back to me today with a notice from hubpages saying it is duplicate content. This upsets me because I have been a writer for more than 5 years and I hate, hate, hate copied content to start with and...

I was reading a Hub on Hubpages, and was concerned to read the advice that the content we use in our Hubs should be unique, not something we've posted elsewhere on the net.I started out on Helium and have nearly 200 articles on that site. When I joined HubPages, I saw it as a great opportunity to...
