Favorite conspiracy theory movie

   The more outrageous the better.
   
   Name a movie, describe the conspiracy theory involved in the film's plot, and feel free to add any real-life correalations if you come up with one.
   
   Z is a French-made film set in Greece during a period of political turmoil. It is based around historical events, but a good deal of speculation is added in order to propose a theory that supports the position of a radical left anti-NATO party that is opposing the rigid policies of the Royalist Gov't. Costa-Gavras the film's director atleast makes the ultimate implication that the National Police assaulted and harassed the members of this opposition party knowing they would discredit the ruling party and would therefore use the unrest to justify the military taking over the gov't and declaring dictatorship.

      Liked 'The Parallax View' with Warren Beatty about the assassination of a senator blamed on a lone gunman but actually carried out by a secretive organisation.
      You can guess the real-life correlation :-)

         Wow! I failed to realize what that movie was about since I never saw. We just need Bulworth and one more to have a Warren Beatty assassinated Senator film festival.

   Manchurian Candidate
   
   Released in the early 60's and starring Frank Sinatra, Angela Lansbury and Laurence Harvey as a favorite son who discovers he has become a mind-controlled puppet of Soviet and Chinese agents who attempt to coerce him into assassinating a Presidential candidate.
   
   Released less than 2 yrs before Kennedy's assassination and nearly 10 yrs before it was realized that both the US and the USSR had atleast researched and attempted to perform a number of mind-control techniques, including MKUltra.

   Independence Day was one that some people actually believed to have happened and the Governments covered it up lol, quite how they could cover up the White House and various worldwide landmarks being blown up by large alien spaceships is anyones guess!
   Mind you many people believe Religion is fact, so that explains it!

      Which brings to mind The Last Temptation of Christ, which sparked so much controversy for daring to speculate that Christ may have been tempted to actually get married and have children. Then, along comes Dan Brown and he writes The Davinci Code and dares to speculate (using the apocryphal and gnostic texts as his histoical parallel) that Christ not only married Mary Magdelene and fathered children, but that those descendants not only survived but also emigrated to stylish southern France.

   Michael Clayton - not a bad movie. Nothing extraordinary as far as plot goes - big corporation, murder, money, power, etc., but has a nicely done murder scene. Murder that was a suicide, of course.
   
   One more with Clooney - Syriana. Not the lightest piece of a movie out there, but one of the better ones tackling "big oil-big politics" partnership.
   
   The Conspiracy Theory - if You like Julia Roberts and Mel Gibson. One of the "conspiracies" in the film involves a relationship between space shuttle and earthquakes.

      Saw all three. And I have to say that I prefer Clooney to Mel but after all these years I still prefer Conspiracy Theory to the other two. But not to take away from the other two. All three picks were great movies. But Mel seems to play 'crazy' really well. Lethal Weapon, for instance. Riggs was suicidally insane so therefore Mel played him very well, especially in the first one. But another Clooney performance I enjoyed was Burn After Reading, which I didnt think was the best movie, but him and Malkovich kept it somewhat interesting.
