Heya all,
As loud and talkative as I may appear on teh internets, I am an uber chicken. Well, a few weeks ago I published a hub and a reporter contacted me and wants to do an interview. I've been interviewed on the phone before, but it was something that was published in a newspaper so it was just text, not scary at all!
This interviewer wants to do one of those "in real life" interviews that viewers will watch. Seriously. Think of an introverted friend. Now, if that friend met me, he or she would say "Wow, that Melanie chick is soooo introverted." That's how introverted I am.
Not to mention, I look like butt on camera. Seriously.
So, it's going to be on Sunday... what do I do? I'm running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. Actually, I AM a chicken.
I could always change my mind, but I don't often get opps like this and it would be silly to turn it down. What should I do? Any tips? Especially from introverts... No offense, extroverts, but you guys tend to just say stuff like "Relax, you'll be fine!" And I'm like "Relax??? I'm going to be doing extrovert stuff! How can I relax?"
Ask for a list of questions ahead of the interview. Prepare your answers. The interviewer gets a better interview rather than a load of "ums" and "ahs".
Most introverts are pretty good one-on-one. Just go about it as if you were talking to a friend.
So lets see..there are probably going to be thousands upon thousands of people watching your every move, what you are wearing..your body language, then there is the hair, will you be sweating and so on and so forth..and oh yes, I have been told that the camera makes anyone look fat, but besides that do prepare a set of questions and answers and just look at the reporter while he asks you the questions. If you are passionate about what you are talking about it will take over and you will not even realize that your are on TV just do not look at the camera just at the reporter, I have been doing public speaking and interviews for a few years now and you start slow but suddenly your desire to share what you know about your topic takes over and you actually get to enjoy it...
Did I mention that thousands upon thousands...Oh yea I did, sorry...
I checked out your hubs to see if I could figure out which one got you in trouble. I think I know which one it is. As to all your hubs, you are truly an amazing writer. Good luck with the interview!
There's nothing to be worried about. The people doing the interviews deal with all kinds of people, and they're usually pretty good about making you feel at home. Beyond that, they'll probably edit things a bit until they have something that makes everyone look good.
No worries, and congrats!
Thanks you guys, lol. Now I'm all nervous and excited about it. I sent her a line asking about the questions (her response reminded me to come back to this thread.) She said that I can check out the interview before it's let out into the world. She also gave me information on what was going to be discussed which makes me feel a lot better.
Melanie, I just discovered this thread, too late to offer any additional advice. All the answers you already got are awesome. All I want to add at this point is... Good Luck on Sunday. Congratulations for being selected for a live interview. That means a lot and shows how good you really are.

I have a tendency to do a lot of interviews for my articles, whether it's for book reviews, music reviews, celebrity interviews, etc. I haven't found many hubs that utilize interviews....in fact, I've only found one that does, but maybe I'm not digging deep enough or using the right search...

How do you get interviewed for the HubPages weekly newsletter?I'm curious ...
