   What a poster set to Chrono posts is not always what a reader set to Threaded sees. And vice-versa for all I know. In other words, I'll bet there have been lots of miscommunications where both sides end up being undeserving victims.    [Edit: Bottom line: In my opinion, if you are using Threaded and an ongoing dialogue doesn't seem to quite make sense or seems to be missing the mark, try switching to Chrono. As to vice-versa, I don't know.]

   The weird part is that the reply did not quote the entire thing.  I would have thought that would be automatic.  But I have seen some posts in other threads in the past that seemed to quote more - or less - than looked to me to be logical, so maybe that's the explanation.
   
   I wonder if this is actually a glitch?  I mean, shouldn't the reply box be able to "grab" everything that was in the original post (even one that has quoted another one), whether the forum setting is Chronological or Threaded and whether one person sees everything on their screen or not?

      Yep, so far it looks to me that Chrono will faithfully render whatever the poster posts. But when the post gets too "complicated", Threaded does not.

      Different quote 'amounts' is because above the entry box for your reply you can import and edit quote and so put in what you like up to the whole quote.

         I don't believe that is the explanation for what I am talking about.
         
         I use the import and edit the quote feature quite frequently - usually to cut out what is not essential to my reply, but sometimes to respond to more than one post at the same time.
         
         The "weird thing" that I mentioned has occurred when a Hubber's reply shows only their own previous post, and not that of the Hubber who had responded to them.  If you look at the linked forum thread mentioned above, you will see an example in the exchange between paradigmsearch and wilderness. [ETA:  In that case, it was the reverse. It showed only paradigm's reply, but not wilderness' post that paradigm was quoting.] There's usually not a great deal of reason for someone to quote only themselves when they are responding to another Hubber's specific post.
         
         So, I agree that you have described one reason for different quote amounts, but I am rather certain that in the situation I mentioned the explanation lies elsewhere.

   As opposed to starting a new thread, I'd like to turn this thread into a survey. Not only do I think the results would be interesting and useful to everyone, it will keep bumping the warning to the top. Comments re: different browsers, etc., and whatever else comes to mind are also welcome.

   Chrono - always, always, always; using IE some number. - not feeling very techie right now, sorry. 
   
   Hold on.  Okay, wait, I figured it out - IE 8.
   
   I really dislike the fact that when we are not signed in, the chronological option is not available at all.  I don't mind reading the threaded view occasionally, but I don't like that I can't change it (other than by signing in) if I'm not already signed in.

   As of this post we have 5 Chronological and 1 Threaded. I'm guessing no one is really surprised by this ratio. This thread will probably even convert some Threaded's to Chronological's.

   Chronological for me.
   I wonder if there is some correlation between forum viewing preference and political affiliation or religious views?
   Hmmm. What else has a 5:1 ratio?
   
   BTW,
   I usually use FF but had problems with it today (it crashed and sent an error message) so I am using IE for tonight.
