Honestly? It's not the actual PERSON I dislike. It's the ACT of smoking I despise. I don't like anything having to do with tobacco and smoking. It's bad for your health (and mine... if I happen to be around), it makes your clothing (hair, body, etc.) stink and it KILLS people (gives them diseases, takes them away from their friends/families, etc.). When my son was just a year old, he was diagnosed with asthma (due to people smoking around him). To watch your baby, in the ER, be soooo sick, it takes 4-5 doctors to hold him down, to insert and i.v... that's enough for me to seriously despise the whole thing. I watched as a great-grandmother of mine (when I was young) die from emphysema (sp?). Many people on my mom's side of the family smoke and it's caused problems when we gather at mom's house, for family get-togethers. Does she try to appease me, her daughter, because she knows her grandson cannot be around it, OR... does she not say anything in hopes of keeping the peace with everyone else? She usually does the latter, which I will never understand. I usually end up leaving, upset, with my son, because... it's just not worth it. When my father was alive, he smoked since he was 12 yrs. old, then- at the age of 50-something- goes to the doctor and requests something (medication) to help him quit. I was sooo proud of my dad for doing that! It showed what was more important to him, and it wasn't a nagging habit that ruined HIS health, and everyone else's around, but... it was the improvement of his own health and the health of others. I've seen friends who smoked quit, so I realize it's not something that can be accomplished overnight. There's some real work involved. I honestly believe, though, if a person is truly committed to doing something (anything!), it can be done.

I hate cigarette smoke but I have a lot of friends who are smokers. I therefore have to tolerate the smoke as best I can when in their company. I also hate cannabis smoke but as a musician I have had to mix with many cannabis smokers. Again I have had to tolerate this as best I can. I admit I try to avoid the smoke of cigarettes and cannabis. Both make me feel ill to varying degrees.

In my own place I do not allow smoking. But if I am a guest at someone else's place I can hardly ask them not to smoke now can I?
