Substandard?

I just wrote a quick hub about guinea pigs and it was rejected for being substandard. It is 596 words and I'm assuming grammar is not a reason it was unpublished.

"The quality of this Hub does not live up to HubPages' standards. It may be empty or unfinished, poorly formatted (including having a disallowed capsule in the first full width position), contain broken links or videos, low quality photos or videos, or grammar or spelling mistakes that interfere with the readability of the Hub. These factors diminish the value of this Hub to our community."

My question is what is a disallowed capsule in the first position? I have a photo I took myself, but is it a new rule that photos cannot be at start? I always start my hubs with a photo so this would be an issue. The photo is clear and has my girls holding two guineas. Should I change the photo for plain guineas, no people?

If for some reason my tips about guineas are not wanted here, that is fine with me, I would just want to know why it got flagged. I see much shorter hubs about just about anything getting through.

Are the standards changing or did I miss some important rule?

    From the learning center:

    http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/Mode … ow-Quality

Is your photo pixelated or watermarked?  It OK in the first capsule, although ebay, amazon, rss and link capsules are not.

Don't get too upset about the term "substandard" - this has been an ongoing problem as the down check is not necessarily for actually being low quality.  Read that section of the learning center.

Thank You I did read the tips and try submitting with another photo and different title. Also gonna cut the e-bay capsules to 3... hopefully it is not too saturated subject on hubpages lol

Ive been recieving the same kind of treatment. I kept an open mind and adjusted and fiddled here n there.
But the notices kept coming, and to be honest it has irritated me somewhat.

        Oh well..

I have noticed over the last few weeks a number of hubs about how to care for................(insert animals name) maybe HP are patrolling that topic more than others?

Strange, I wonder if the amount of ebay products to words ratio was too high, (I think it is 50 unique words per item advertised). I do myself have a hub on "Caring for and Choosing Your Pet Guinea-Pig (Cavy)", but it never caused me any problems with HP, although it is a rather long hub. I can't however see any reason from what you describe, for your hub to be rejected. Very odd!

well like I said I did cut ebay and wrote almost 600 words and I feel like I know about subject owning couple for few years that are like our family members. Anyway AC plays straight each month to paypal no matter how little so this goes straight to me.

Sounds like you answered your own question by saying you wrote a quick Hub.  Maybe you didn't spend enough time on it, just saying.........

That could be, maybe in some categories you need to write more. I also published a hub about my new recipe yesterday, way shorter and took me less time and there seems to be no problems on that hub.

I did try changing the photo and the title. Took few e-bay links off but got flagged again so I will just publish it somewhere else. No biggie, I just wish I knew exactly what was the reason.

Maybe you should write to team@hubpages .com to know what exactly you are doing wrong.. so you can avoid it in the future.

I will if it becomes a bigger issue in the future, under 700 words about how we care for our guinea can be posted somewhere else, it might even work for me better at AC

It is almost funny that this same article with no alterations what so ever was accepted by associatedcontent and they paid $2.07 for it. If it wasn't for Hubpages rejecting it I would have not even offered it for payment being such a "quick" write, I just wanted to see if it was grammar because AC tells you if it is. Anyway thank you for HB for flagging this hub, now I know where to go with that type of material!
