I just wrote a hub about the end of the world in 2012.  However, what I did not put into the hub, was the number of times the end of the world was predicted.
Googled it, and the most number of times was 242.  That is a pretty big number.

Only 242 times (LOL)...it's like the boy who cried wolf too many times.  Thanks for sharing!

I had to repost it because I made a mistake in the name of the post.
I am new to this and not very good at it.

I have been reading quite a bit about the so-called Mayan prophecy concerning the end of the world and apparently there is no such thing.  The Mayans did not predict the end of the world on 21st December 2012.  In has actually been a modern invention, which has been great for the sale of several books on the subject.

I think it's just that the Mayan calendar ends on Dec. 21st, 2012. That was translated into the end of days somehow. It is considered to be the end of an era by the Mayans, not quite the doomsday prediction that it has been called.

As an excellent way to keep paranoia running rampant, along with instilling fear.

But I wrote a hub about it, which does say that people cannot tell with any accuracy when the world will end.

Hey Michele, you should be able to learn to make more than two faces. Click on "formatting" when you reply to a post. It should show you many different faces to make.

It isn't even that the Mayan calendar ends on this date. It is simply a date of transition, for the Mayans... hmm

Only 242 times, huh? They must not be counting all the people out on street corners! I used to walk a downtown area while waiting for buses when I was between vehicles and I cannot tell you how many times I walked past people who said the end of the world was going to be "tomorrow" or "next week". Of course, that was over 7 years ago now......LOL!
