   When asked what the greatest commandment was; Jesus did not mention about belief in him or belief in his prophesized Resurrection, but he simply stated the greatest commandment was that ‘the Lord our God, the Lord is one’.

               It is a Christian primary belief that only Jesus was innocent; so that makes the scribes sinful and people who could make mistakes; and they did make blunders.

               Paar thinks the New Testament is full of lies because it was written by sinful scribes and others, and wasnt jotted down by Jesus himself, or dictated to someone to write down, like Mohammed.
               
               He is thus able to ignore passages of the Bible that don't suit his Muslim faith (such as those that pertain the the divinity of Jesus), or the peculiar perspective of his sect of Islam, which claims Jesus did not die on the cross, but rather got up from the tomb and moved to India.
               
               Other than that, Paar is Canadian, so he is naturally a nice guy

                  The Bible is the inspired word of God. The word inspired in the Bible means "God breathed". Technically the scriptures were spoken to a scribe, God being the speaker and the writers being the scribe. God spoke to them fully and purely through their conscience.

                     That is the claim of the writers, of course.  Just as Joseph Smith--the great con man himself--claimed to talk to the angel Moroni.  Smith obviously misspelled macaroni.

                           My familly is from Chicago, but that is beside the point. I have suggested that people read the upanishads, if they don't it is no skin off my back. I only say things that are intended to get people thinking for themselve's, outside of formal and social barriers. Read everything you can and learn as much as possible. Living in one book or by ism, to me, is foolish.

                        mischeviousme, grant me audience and let me answer this question by describing to you what little understanding i have of the 'tao' principle. this will also relate somewhat to paarsurrey's original thread about an existence of only one god.
                        
                        the 'tao' doctrine is indeed old, older than most mainstream religion like christianity and islam, some claim even predates judaism which is more than 2000 years before christianity... but the teachings of the 'tao' is more of a guide to a way of life, it was not a mainstream religion until buddhism and confucianism and later on taoism were founded.
                        
                        a lot of similar success stories we can gleam, oriental emperors trying to carve a lasting legacy, compiles these various collection of traditions and established what is equivalent to a bible, the i-ching in western terms, several centuries later famous philosopher/s which wrote books and triggered the religious taoism movement. artifacts, paintings, writings and other proofs like words of power due to its ancient origins, these are all more of the same, tools that were use to convert men and perhaps use them as instruments to propagate the religion.
                        
                        but the way of the 'tao' or at least the original essence of the tradition does not acknowledge a singular all encompassing all powerful being, what it does teach is for us to recognize that we and everything around us are one with the universe and that we must strive to be in harmony of it and not go against it.
                        
                        in other words, be at peace ^_^

                           As I have been saying since I began typing in the HP. Isms mean absolutely nothing and if I live out of a book, I am missing the bigger picture. When I use the word God, I am only trying to relate to the western mind. I have been of many isms and all they did was forstall an inevitable conclusion. None of it matters. I am one with the universe and this is enlightenment. I have escaped and am awake.

                              it is good that you have found your peace mischeviousme. i however cannot escape yet the grip of my religious faith and belief. i am a catholic and thus belong to your ism category. the holy book grips my heart like a vise, and not without merit, for a lot of it does contain the essence of good and justice and best of all, the recipe, for a promise of peace everlasting... but this is my belief, and each one of us is unique in that perspective.
                              
                              still, i am also not living in the past. some might hate me for saying this, others might understand, these books of wisdom are made by men of wisdom intending to share it to the people of their culture and their time. any book that tends to claim truths that transcends time is a misnomer. what i need are constant updates that i could effectively apply to the present... sadly, the current churches are doing a bit poor and lagging in that department. in fact, present day science offer far more convincing truths and application than a lot of the things written/translated or whatever.
                              
                              in reality, i have not found peace, that is why i am in these forums to try and understand the many colors this present world has to offer.

                                 Right! So use what you have learned to move forward. I am not getting down on religion, I am pointing out that to be trapped by it can create a form of suffering. It should be used to liberate the mind and spirit, not hamper it. True enlightenment is not found through books or the knowledge of the land, but through will. The problem is in this society, that there are so many other wills in the way and they create worldly desire. I cannot convince you to see it my way, though I am trying to convince my readers to see their own way. Use the teachings, don't live in them. That is what I am pointing out.

      Sure you pick and choose, Paar...  you pick and choose based on what text you feel can be fitted into the parameters of your own faith.
      
      How do you determine which quotes are from Jesus and which ones are mythical... or from sinful scribes, as you describe them?
      
      Did you personally know the sinful scribes?  Where you there?  You aren't THAT old Paar.

         It is indeed a trap of sorts.  Some are afraid to question the book and are told to be so by church leaders.  Most never question who wrote the Bible nor if they were inspired or merely writing fiction.

   So the greatest commandment which Moses told and Jesus confirmed is belief in ONE the Creator God; and those who believe that Jesus was god or son of god in literal terms are wrong. There is no basis for Trinity.
