What is up with all the food hubs?

   Every morning I open up HubPages, my feed is spammed with recipe hubs.  Why is this? And why all of a sudden?

         I have no quarrels with food or or food related hubs. But this is just excessive. Most of these hubs have no story, interesting info, many are less than 400 words and look like something you would find on an index card.
         I thought HubPages was for writers. Not for copy / pasting from grandmas cook book.

            I agree, i guess hubbers should be more creative in presenting recipes not just plain rip off from google

      You have a choice to filter what is displayed in your feed or from whom. People publish what they will. Many people have a lot of success with recipe hubs. I have a Christmas drink recipe that is still getting Google traffic even though Christmas is over. My Jamaican soup hubs also gets me lot of Google traffic so I wouldn't want other hubbers not to publish their recipes.  Use your filters.

         Seriously. I caught on to the food hub thing last year. They still are at the top of my views list every single day. But I do make an effort to make the hub a valuable article not just a recipe. In fact, most of the recipes are my own creation tweaked or changed from those handed down.
         
         If I write an article about food, it's about food and what to do with it, how to grow it, or about technique, then I add a recipe which includes the technique or the food discussed.

      I know how to use my filters and enjoy reading about the subjects I have opted in for. But maybe if they could bring me traffic,  I should dig up my ancient Julia chills cookbook. >_<
      
      I wonder.... how many " Chocolate chip cookie recipes" are on HubPages?

      Well you have to keep in mind that most writers on this site will often write about topics that get a lot of hits, and food recipes are very popular on hubpages.

   I don't seem to have that problem.  Perhaps you are following someone who writes a lot of recipe hubs or maybe you are following that category by mistake.  If you hover over the right side of these feeds, you can adjust your settings when you see the x.  When you see a recipe hub then just click hide stories in this category.

   If we're supposed to write about what we know or are interested in, then for me it is about baking, children, adoption, etc.  I'm new to this, but it took me two weeks to get my first hub published.  I thought all the hubs had to go through the scan to make sure they were not substandard, which included hubs with too little content, etc.  If you follow a topic, you're going to get alot of notifications and you can elect to unfollow if it has become too cumbersome.  It was rather easy to do by just clicking on the unfollow.  I hope this helps.

      When it comes to word count there are exceptions with recipe and poetry hubs due to the fact that many recipes have little ingredients.

   Although I agree that many recipe hubs can lack substance and originality, there are quite a few that don't and I'm sure it is reflected in the hub's score and comments.

   I agree that some of the food hubs could improve with a little added text and maybe a few pictures. Otherwise, someone can simply copy the ingredients and basic instructions and call it their own hub. Not exactly fair to those of us who write more lengthy material. Still, I have enjoyed skimming through a few recipe hubs, and I learn from them.
   
   My pet peeve so far are the hubs with basic bio info about entertainers - some are good, but some appear to be rewrites from other sources.

   Actually recipe Hubs have been one of the few types that have been useful to me in real life.
   Even though I dont write any.
   I've gotten good recipe and health tips from quite a few.

   I don't think it's a good niche, but if it breaks you out of writer's block, or whatever, then hey, go for it.
   
   I'm thinking that food or recipe hubs is one of the highest competition and lowest paying advertising niches out there.
   
   In the general sense - if one narrows it down considerably to "Organic foods to de calcify the pineal gland" - then maybe you've got something.

      I'm obsessed with my Pineal Gland after learning that fluoride in the water calcifies the Pineal gland.....blocking most of the hormones, etc, that it was meant to produce.

    I think there are lesser recipe hubs now compared to a couple of months ago when almost everyday, the Hub of the Day was a recipe hub.  I don't mind good easy-to-do recipe hubs, specially those with photos and videos.  But the ones that look like copied straight from a recipe book.. those I mind and sometimes would flag them as... as... annoying.

    My recipes articles are far from easy to do.
    
    I won't post one without actually cooking it and taking pictures as I go. Then I add in a lot, especially for different styles of the same dish.
    
    My favorite part is getting comments.
    
    So if you see my infrequent recipes, dish not diss! ha ha!
