Question About Google and Websites

   I've heard that Google is going start giving less rank to sites with ads at the top of the fold. I have Google Adsense banner type ads just below the description of my page on my website. Do I need to remove these? I have a site with around 100 pages. This sounds like a lot of work. Do I need to remove all those ads? Does anyone know? Thanks in advance.

         Thanks to everyone for their input on this. I am going to leave mine on and see what happens. It is just too many pages to change. I am tired of Google and their games.
         I hope they are only talking about the websites that have so many ads at the top that you have to scroll through them to get to content. I earn about $250 a month from my site. I'd hate if I lose it.

      What I read was it wasn't the banners or ads, per se, it was the lack of information in this area. Most of the banner ads on my sites do not in any way impede the reader's ability to read the page content, above the fold.
      
      You have yourself have come across those sites that have all ads above the fold, meaning you have to scroll down to read the content.
      
      Those are the sites Google are, quite rightly, targetting.

   You can and should have ads above the fold, you just need to have content there as well.

      Thats how i understand it too. They say for sites that don't have (or barely have) content showing in the first fold.
      
      I guess visitors must be able to start reading some content before hitting the scroll button. I had to check my websites to see if i comply.
      
      Here at HP, I tend to put large pictures (full width) in the 1st capsule of my hubs, so you have to scroll before seeing any content. I'm starting to do something about that now.

   It's going to take time for this to play out. There is so much fear and speculation out there, that one needs to calm down before taking any drastic action.
   
   We'll have to wait and see which actual websites or blogs are penalized in order to get a better feel and understanding of what Google is actually trying to do.
   
   As for the idea Hubpages should take down their ads, you might as well get your hubs copied quick, as they'll be out of business the next day.
   
   This isn't a government-run or backed socialist endeavour, it's a business that provides and important service. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

      To respond to the point about making copies of every hub, I do that automatically when I publish hubs and highly recommend it to everyone. It's our written material that I think is too risky to depend upon a 3rd party to keep it safe & available to me/us at all times so I always back-up everything I do!
      
      Other than that, I want to thank everyone for the information you've provided here. It's the first I've heard of this (proposed) change, and would think, assume, plus hope that they will target only those where you'd have to scroll to see content. I'll also research it a bit to learn more, so thanks for the heads up....

      The ad side of google us separated from the search side apparently.   Adsense will tell you to fill your page with ads that would damage SERPs.
      
      Of course they won't lose any rank

   For hubbers, we need to worry less as i strongly believe HP will respond to these changes fast. Then for personal site we must make endeavor to remove them rather than waiting to be hit by the so called google.
