Worried about Adsense cheque not arriving

   I'm appealing in particular to South African hubbers here (I know you exist!), but if anyone else has any suggestions, go ahead.
   
   All the Google Adsense cheques I've received to date have arrived in the mail without any problems. But last year the South African Post Office started to screw a lot of people around with their mail, and overseas mail (inbound and outbound) was either drastically delayed or just didn't arrive at all. I lost two pay cheques from another company because of this.
   
   I know it is possible to have a courier company deliver adsense cheques, after I read through an FAQ on Google about it - and they may even put a tracking number on the cheques too. Has anyone else in SA had any problems with payments, Adsense or other, not arriving? And what did you do about it? Thanks for any help.
   
   I'm nearing payout again so I need to know what to do about this matter before next month or so.

      Yes you can have it courier-delivered, but it's expensive and will really eat into your payout.  Do you have the option of having it paid direct to your bank account in SA?  It's a much better method.

         I'm not sure, but I doubt it. I'll check. Payout methods are limited in SA. It's mostly "cheque or nothing". I'm thinking I'll give SAPO a try, but if they mess up again then I'll have no alternative but to go by courier. Then not only will that cost me money, but the bank takes a chunk out as well.

            I just checked and you're right, it's cheque only. 
            
            Are you on the HP Ads program?  It's probably a better option for you, because it's paid by Paypal.  You'll still earn some Adsense income but only one ad per Hub is displayed, so it will take a lot longer to build up to payout.
            
            You could also set your payout threshold higher.  That's what I do with Amazon - I have it set at $250, that way it's not so painful to lose a chunk when I bank it.

               I can't use PayPal because one needs a credit card or a cheque card to link a PayPal and a bank account here in SA. I have neither. Debit cards won't cut it. So that means no HPEP for the foreseeable future.
               
               Yep, earning an income online is hard in SA because the facilities available are in their early stages/ non-existent. eCommerce is in its infancy compared to first world countries like the USA.
               
               Can you raise a payout threshold with Adsense? I wasn't aware of this.

                  You could still use paypal directly by spending the money online?
                  
                  And, yes, you can set the threshold anywhere above 100 for Adsense.

                  In Australia,you need either a credit card OR a bank account (not both) to get a business account, but you don't need a business account to accept payments.  I have a personal account and have never gone through the full bank verification process, but I can still withdraw money.  The basic Paypal instructions on Paypal South Africa look identical to the Australian ones, so it may be worth taking another look.
                  
                  Because I've never verified my bank account, there's a limit on how much money I can withdraw - but I get around that by paying money to my husband's Paypal account, then he withdraws it for me

                     I've tried more than once in the past to use PayPal here. But as far as I know, you need a bank account, need access to online banking, must have a credit or cheque card and you have to link your bank account to your PayPal account using either card.
                     
                     But I have thought of speaking to someone at my bank about this matter just to confirm.
                     
                     I have read about putting a manual hold on one's adsense account before - so that is another way of saying "change the payout threshold". I see.

                        Why would you talk to the bank?  They don't control what Paypal allows.

   I am not sure how to help with new checks, but you should report old checks missing as Adsense will reissue them.

      I haven't had a problem with any cheques in the past, until last year. I'm just concerned that this latest Adsense cheque won't arrive this time. You people in Oz seem to have it easy! My family almost moved to Oz or New Zealand years back.
