They're changing the origin story of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

   As some of you may know, Michael Bay is producing the latest TMNT reboot that's set to come out on christmas of next year.  However, Bay recently announced that they're going to change the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' origin, to where instead of being ordinary turtles mutated by ooze, they'll be actually aliens from another world.  I know it probably sounds blasphemous to some fans, but it's true.  Here's the link if you want to know more:

      Modern writers and directors have a nasty habit of altering the back story and key elements of long-successful characters. They say they are trying to modernize the characters or make them more relevant to new audiences or re-imagine (God, I hate that word!) them. At some point, these changes remove the very factors that made these characters successful in the first place. If they're going to change so many factors, why not just create new characters in the first place and start a new franchise. The recent changes to Superman in the comics and the upcoming movie are good examples of this. DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. have lost me with what they've done to Superman.

      It would not the first time TMNT's origin story has been changed, but earlier changes pertained more to the identities of Splinter and Master Yoshi. However, this is taking matters a bit too far, and it feels like the TMNT franchise is being exploited to market an entirely different movie about different characters. Michael Bay might do better to create an entirely different franchise about reptilian martial artists from space.

      Worst Idea I have ever heard.  They are called teenage MUTANT ninja turtles.  Taking out the fact they are beings that mutated is a step too far of a change.  Messing with the villain of the Shredder and their master Splinter I can understand a bit but yeah.  Bay is trying to mess with our childhoods trying to change their background that much.

   I just read an article about this movie and it was filled with the writers distaste for Bays previous works. So I thought I would post a forum topic asking, "Does anyone like Micheal Bay?" Then I saw this!
   
   I kind of feel like if you take the mutant out of it and you probably take the teenage out of it and since ninjitsu* spelling, is an earth based fighting style would it even be fair to call it a TMNT reboot? I mean if Splinter is no where to be seen it couldn't be called a reboot. Could it?!
   
   Interested in what pops up I guess. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited to some degree over it.

   Oh dear! Another great franchise ruined. I used to watch them I was a kid. Back then they were known as the 'Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles' I used to love Michelangelo, he was so cool. Having the Turtles as aliens just doesn't sound right. How will they explain Splinter's origins, and what about Rocksteady and Beebop, Shredder's two muscle goons, what about them?

   maybe michael bay is planning on making the turtles space mutants, who coincidentally resemble giant talking turtles, and they just happen to practice ninjitsu because....old tv show signals traveling through space maybe...  j/k

      Get used to the movie makers playing fast and loose with cultural elements. Having seen the "Beverly Hillbillies" in it's original run on primetime TV, the movie seemed lame and contrived. Same with old TV classics like "Starsky and Hutch" I found the "A-Team" to be the same way.

   As an avid Ninja Turtle fan as a kid, I'm not happy with that.  I'm sure it will be a good movie if you don't go in with any previous bias towards the original, but that will be hard to do.

    I loved the Ninja Turtles when i was a kid and my boys still watch it now. I don't understand why all these writers and directors keep changing classic cartoons and movies when there was clearly nothing wrong with the originals. 'Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles' really??

       Michael Bay should show more respect to the fans as well as the source material- and I don't think many are buying that he's actually working with Laird or Eastman- you know, the original creators- on this.

          well to be fair, we still don't know who the director is going to be on this movie, so hopefully he/she will talk some sense into the writers and michael bay about all this.  i just hope bay doesn't decide to both produce AND direct it, as i can just imagine it now.  the turtles will talk like really bad stereotypes; while featuring a girl acting as april, who has no acting skills whatsoever, but she'll be casted, so she can walk around half naked throughout most of the movie.
          
          there will be plenty of things that go boom, while featuring as little story as humanly possible.  Ah yes, that's the michael bay way.  truly, he is a visionary because EVERYTHING he's involved in somehow makes money.  it doesn't matter what hard core fans of the turtles think, as everything bay says or does with a movie makes money; regardless of quality.

    I think Micheal Bay has to much time on his hands. I seen last week that he is planning to do Transformers 4 due out in 2014. Like he needs the money. Have to admit he must still have the cash from when he did Independance Day back in 1996.

    Bay is systematically destroying the youths of children from the 80s.  I'm actually surprised he didn't get to make GI Joe too, but then again, they didn't need Bay to make that movie horrible, ha.  I'll end up seeing it on Netflix at some point, but making them alien does kind of throw a monkey wrench in the TMNT we all know and love(or at least 10 yr old me did).
