on trying to work with Republicans. If a moderate like Snowe can't work with the POTUS, we're in big trouble. I hate that she's retiring, by the way. I've always liked her.

Snowe a moderate? She is a democrat parading as a republican.

Not at all Repairguy47. She's been our chosen rep for many years. We Mainers are sad to see her retire, especially considering why. In case you've forgotten, she's the original kind of Republican - smart, not extreme, and really working for her constituents. Many these days forget who they work for - constituents, NOT the big companies.

She's one of our long time, totally awesome Senators. I'm sorry to see her go too. Susan Collins is our other Senator - she's also very good.

Obama tries to get the job done. He tries to work with everyone and is more willing to compromise in order to satisfy both sides. Not saying I like or dislike his politics, just my opinion.

Don't really know much about her, but if her statements there are representative of her career she sounds awesome and Congress will be the worse without her.

Yep, "bipartisan" is barely a word anymore. Bush gave the Dems a high flyin' finger for eight years, now Obama is doing the same thing right back, and some people actually think this is just because "he started it." Washington is just one big playground fight these days.

Sad, but true. Prolly why Congress has such abysmal ratings from voters.

And now: for the REST of the story.

"The characteristic Snowe episode came during the health care fight. The Obama administration, desperate to win her vote, wooed her with endless meetings and pleas, affording her a once-in-a-generation chance to not only help pass health care reform but make it smarter, more efficient, and more compassionate. Instead, Snowe tormented the administration by dangling an elusive and ever-changing criteria before their noses. She at first centered her objections around the inclusion of a public option. Democrats removed it, and she voted for the bill in the Finance Committee, only to turn against it when it reached the decisive vote on the Senate floor. Snowe complained that the process was happening too fast, and that it was too partisan, which seemed to be her way of saying she wouldn’t vote for it unless other Republicans joined her."

It was also she and Collins that made Obama remove funding for jobs in the stimulus bill and replace it with tax cuts instead, before they would vote for it.
Please.....as usual, R's are not happy, and don't consider it fair unless they get their way, all the way.

Obama bent over backwards for those clowns.

That's why they have such a low rating, IMO: because everybody knows they care nothing about America--only for destroying president Obama.

LMC, even you referred to Snowe as a moderate on another thread.

LMC, IMO the Dems did the same thing to W. and behaved childishly.  I guess they all behave the same way.

I'm  for smaller government. I need less idiots to try to tell me how to live my life.

I think that leaves both parties out of your equation. Many republicans tout a smaller government and still want to tell us women what to do with our bodies, want to go to great lengths to build walls on the border - no real plan for legal immigration, only anti-immigration, want to decide which religion should be part of our American conscience.

Yes to smaller government. Yes to not killing new life. Yes to walls on the border. Yes to anti-immigration, temporarily. No to National religion.

Who cares what Snowe thinks of Obama. What kind of grade does she gets since she's not the president?

It actually matters to the people she works for. We've voted her in for a reason and now wonder who will fill her void. It's really telling when good employees quit because the coworkers are so hard to get along with and can't get any work done!

It also matters to other moderate Republicans who feel the party has been hijacked by the far right. We need for them to retire instead of Snowe.

Snowe has always been a useless weasel. The reason why she is retiring is that she knows the truth about her reelection chances. What nerve she has to lie about the president when she has nothing on her record that distinguishes herself.

Are you a Mainer? Because Snowe has a long and honorable record serving her fellow citizens here. It's why we've reelected her so many times. We Mainers are a moderate, good bunch. Although our minority  governor is an embarrassment and not our finest example of who we are. He seems to come from that group that's highjacked the Republican party - he's actually an embarrassment to our own Republicans.

she gave Obama bad marks because he stopped talking to her---when she kept changing her demands again and again.  A bit of a spoiled brat --  don't you think ?
