eBay Sales

   On the eBay account page there are some columns such as RPM, Views, Sales and Revenue.
   
   The numbers displayed in the sales column, do they mean that some one has bought something from ebay though my link or are they just clicks? I they are just clicks why not state clicks instead of sales?

      Ebay is a hard one to figure. I do believe that those reflect the actual sells that were made after a click. Of course we get no revenue from the sales, just the clicks as far as I can understand.
      
      If, in fact, we just get paid for clicks, then they should just show clicks, lol.

      eBay used to pay commission on sales, so it's not that silly. 
      
      Unfortunately, they now have a complicated system of payment called Quality Click Pricing.  So you're paid on clicks, but what you get paid depends on how good the "quality" of your clicks are.
      
      What that means is, if you're sending lots of clicks from people who don't ultimately buy, your percentage drops and you get less per click.  If most of your clicks result in sales, your percentage goes up and you get more per click.
      
      This is why I'm so disappointed HubPages took over the eBay program.  When we each had our own eBay accounts, we could each make sure our ads were well-chosen and likely to result in sales.  Now, we're all lumped in together, we're probably suffering from other people who may be sending non-buying traffic.

            I'm not sure I explained it very well.  I use a program called phpBay on my own blogs, so I use eBay a lot, but I still don't fully understand how eBay arrives at its payment figures.

               Marisa do you think, that our CPM varies depending on every hubber? Don't we all have different id's? However, I had a larger CPM when I had just 10 sales in 3 months. Now when I'm getting sales almost everyday, the CPM is fallen to almost nil!

                  We used to have different ID's when we each used our own eBay affiliate program.  Not now.  So the CPM can't vary per Hubber as far as I can see.

                     Hmm, but on the settings page I have an affiliate code. I'm guessing it's different for everyone. Because, unlike the HP Ad Program, you have to be accepted into the eBay program by the eBay staff. If it were the HP code that we use, I guess HP would let everyone use it.

                        I still have an affiliate code showing on my account page, but I think it's my old one, from the days when we used our individual account.  If so, it doesn't mean anything.
                        
                        You don't need to be accepted into the eBay program by eBay staff now. It's part of the HP Earnings Program.  You apply to HubPages.

                                 I beg your pardon, you're quite right.
                                 
                                 I assumed that because (a) it was part of the HP Earnings Program, (b) Hubbers don't deal with eBay direct at all, and (c) all our stats show on HubPages only, that we were all part of HP's account.  However, I found this in the FAQ:
                                 
                                 "The program will track referrals from your Hubs. You will accrue into your HubPages Earnings Program balance from this activity (based on the amount and quality of clicks from your Hubs). eBay keeps separate track of all HubPages-issued IDs that run the eBay Partner Network program. Your ePN ID will have its own “quality” score, which is based on your account activity and is not pooled with other HubPages users."
                                 
                                 I'm not sure how I feel about that.  On the one hand, there's no risk of being lumped in with other people who are sending low quality traffic.  On the other hand, it means my account is very low volume and I've been told that volume has some bearing on the score eBay gives you (though I've never been able to find anything in eBay's explanations to support that).

                                    When I had just 1 sale and about 20 clicks I was getting a way higher CPM than 100 clicks and 20 sales!! That too the 1 item was worth just $2 and amongst these sales includes a $500 fridge... I can't understand how the CPM is calculated.

   I thought that the CPM for the clicks was based on the number of sales. But, the number of sales increased and my CPM crashed by 50%!!

      I have ceased to try and understand Ebay. I make a few dollars here and there with them over time. Not enough to try and figure it all out, lol. At least Amazon takes me to my affiliate page and I can see that a compact fridge was bought by someone after clicking my review hub and I made a small Amazon commission.

      No we don't, I wish we did! For some reason I get more sales on eBay than Amazon, maybe because they have a 30 day thing rather than amazons 24hr period.

         I get more ebay sales but I do get Amazon clicks. Now I am wishing that Amazon paid like eBay so I could pick up a few cents there as well.

            I got 90 Amazon clicks this month but 0 sales... That's a bit surprising. Previous months were better and I've not added any new hubs or changed anything just that people aren't buying this time.

               I only got 28 clicks this month but I don't have a lot of hubs with Amazon capsules and I don't really write hubs specifically for Amazon items, well neither for eBay. I only got 4 clicks on eBay this month...lol

                  I got 10 clicks from eBay yesterday alone. I was surprised though as I get just 2 -3 each day. But, the amount I received for those clicks was less than what I received for just 1 click 2 weeks ago. But, I'm also getting eBay plenty of sales. I'm not happy with them. I guess I'll replace eBay with amazon on those particular hubs to see how they do. I'm going to join Randy I guess and get eBay off permanently.

                           Oh,  I thought you would replace the Amazon with eBay since the eBay pays per click and Amazon doesn't get paid per click, but if you get Amazon sales the commission will pay more than the clicks I guess.

   This is the first month I have received more sales on ebay than Amazon. Yet I know the commission rate is vastly different.

   The eBay report is showing me what items were clicked on my hubs and I must say I am surprised to see a very irrelevant item clicked on. I don't understand since I obviously did not place a dog collar on my jerk seasoning hub....makes no sense.

            I have just compost capsules eBay keeps the cookies for a month so any sales after people click through your capsules results in sales for you. Provided they don't click another referral first - I guess Amazon on the other hand has a cookie period of just 24 hrs which is really bad.

                  Most affiliate companies do that - if someone clicks on your ad, then goes back and buys something (anything) within 30 days, you get commission.
                  
                  In fact, Amazon is the only one that doesn't!  That's why I prefer to use other companies on my websites if I can.  Of course I'm limited on HubPages although I occasionally use text links.
