Hub Comments

   I originally had my hub comment settings set to allow anyone to comment. After getting hateful comments from unregistered users badmouthing me and my friend who comments on my hubs I changed the settings to allow only registered users to comment. That seemed to stop the hateful comments. But I wonder... is it better to have the settings set to allow anyone to comment on a hub rather than allow only registered users to comment? Would allowing only registered users to comment decrease the number of comments hubs can receive? I am surprised that hubs that have hundreds upon hundreds of views don't have hundreds of comments.

      In most cases, it's best to keep Comments Capsules open, so that as many people as possible can engage with your wrok.
      Perhaps you might just change your settings for Hubs that readers find to be controversial?

         Simone, it sounds like, (and I don't know, but I've seen this before,) someone has a personal beef with the author, not the controversialness of the hubs.  They're just adding the comments to anything being written in order to bully the person, not because they disagree with what's being written.
         
         I agree with Simone, it's always best, (but imho, *especially* on the controversial topics!,) to keep your comment capsules as open as possible.  However, if you're finding that someone is personally attacking you through your work, (or a group of someone's,) perhaps you set the comments to requiring your personal approval before they're published.
         
         Make sure to take a look at the IP addresses of those commenters, as well.
         
         Simone: I know you're super-busy, but when you've a chance, I was curious, is there a way for HP users to ban a commenter via their IP address?  If there was, this would possibly solve that particular issue.

            Nicole - whoever was throwing nasty comments my way about me and my friend was doing it on many hubs and it had nothing to do with the hubs' content. I always had and still have comments requiring my approval. Those nasty comments always went into spam but that didn't make it any better for me. Though no one but me saw them, I did, and that hurt a lot.

            Maybe I will try to allow anyone to comment for the time being... And see what happens. Even if no one sees the nasty comments I don't want to see them as they are hurtful. And I can't not check spam because sometimes good comments end up going there that need to be approved.

               Hi Lovebuglena, Why don't you set it so that all comments must be moderated or approved before appearing? That way your capsule is open to all comments but you can delete the offenders before anyone sees them.

                  That's what I always had. I must always approve before they appear. But as I've mentioned above while others don't see the hateful comments I still do and that hurts.
