Hub Not Featured due to "Quality"

   Not on the forums much so this topic has probably already been beaten to death, but here goes . . .
   
   1. Opened one of my published hubs as it IS one I would like to revamp.  A "tip" from HP suggested that I remove the colored dividers between different sections of the hub (?)  Many, many people use these dividers and they are very attractive!  Why would this be an issue (couldn't find anything about it in HP FAQ section)?  Has it become a no-no?
   
   2. So I removed the dividers, my hub went through the "Pending" process and now my hub has been "Not Featured - Quality" . . . . !!!!  No, my hub does not have a map, video, etc. ad nauseam because some hubs do not lend themselves to such capsules - so I'm sure this is one of the reasons it is considered low quality.  It has one photo.  So what about all the fiction writing on here that only has one photo?!  I suppose those hubs are also NFQ?!  Or does fiction fall into another category?

      I'm not sure why it would be unfeatured for no other reason than removing the dividers. As for fiction and poetry, they are rated differently if they're categorized under either the creative writing or poetry categories. If either are placed in a category based on the topic of the story or poem, they'll get lower scores.

      HP doesn't like dividers or any other decorations on the text.  I can't tell you why!
      
      At least you're now aware of one important thing:  these days, every time you edit a Hub, it will be sent through the QAP, and there's always a risk it may not pass.  So the old adage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" now applies!
      
      You may just have been unlucky - after all, the assessors are only human, and you may have got one who was in a bad mood!   I suggest you post a link to the Hub in the "Improving Your Hub" section and maybe we can diagnose what's lacking.

         Sheilamyers: that at least answers one of my questions!  Kind of wondered if fiction was QAP'd differently and that makes sense.  But there are still times when certain hubs can be good but not require all the bells and whistles.  This particular hub is about my personal experience living in Big Oil country and what oil companies are really like to deal with - hard to put videos and maps on that type of hub!  I'm going to add at least one more photo and some additional info. - and then cross my fingers I guess!
         
         Marisa: so dividers of any type are no longer allowed then?!  There are hubbers who created custom dividers and made hubs about them (thinking of Miss Olive here - How to Create Personalized Headers, Headings and Dividers)!  They can be really nice if you're creative!
         
         Thank you for offering to diagnose the hub!  Know what's lacking but, as I mentioned, sometimes it's just hard to throw junk on.  Will revamp and then if it doesn't pass may take you up on your offer!

            If by "what's lacking" you're referring to polls and other fancy stuff, then you're on the wrong track.   Those things can be very handy for keeping readers on your Hub, but they're not relevant to passing QAP.

      Go ahead and put your dividers back if they helped.  I have divider graphics in several of my larger hubs to break up content and some are even Editor's Choice and all my hubs are featured.  Those tips are "suggestions" and don't always apply.  If your dividers are not tacky and they are helpful to making the content easier to view - go for it.

         I agree.  I think it depends on the template of the hub you chose, and how you alter it to your needs, as well as the subject matter that the QAP is assessing.

   Page dividers are still allowed, but you will get a 'Style Tip' warning when you use them.  (I use them.)  I don't know if they are part of the QAP.  They might be part of QAP for organization ("Is information presented using the most appropriate supporting elements and text formatting?) but I've never heard any one say that using divides gives you a bad score for organization.  In any event, using dividers will not prevent your Hub from passing QAP.

      I took out the dividers based on the "Style Tip" (I know that wasn't why my hub was made NFQ - my hub just doesn't have enough "stuff" added into it).  Just thought the tip was strange as dividers can look really good!

         I used to have dividers in my hubs when I started here because all the best hubbers had them and it makes the hub look really good. Then, somewhere along the way it was said that dividers aren't good because they are looked at by Google as links. And too many links are no good.

            Jan, there is no way that a divider is a link unless you are giving some kind of link as a photo credit!   Also, not all dividers get the Style Tip warning.  For instance, if you look at my most recent Hub I use a string of shamrocks for page dividers.  Because the dividers in that Hub are not just a skinny line, they don't get the warning. I need the dividers to make the Table of Contents work on my Hubs.

            But how can that be true?  I put my dividers in as a photo capsule . . . so what happens if you have a hub with a lot of photos and no dividers?  Because you have a lot of photos your hub will be snubbed by Google?  How many links are too many?

               I never put links in the photo capsule because there is no way to "NoFollow" the links there.  You should never link to any site that isn't relevant to the content of your Hubs with a followed link and you can only use "NoFollow" in a text capsule.

                  You're right.  I don't put links in my photo capsules either - although I do sometimes at the bottom of my hub for a photo credit.  Thanks!

   I have dividers in photo capsules, but I know it is a negative style tip. They do look nice but may be too informal for staff.

   It is kind of ridiculous, because your dividers are making it more "article-like," so one would think that during the QAP, it would be seen as a positive aspect.  Noted for the future!  Still a beginner hubber here.
