I wish we had a way to block certain forum posts that we don't care to see. There are a few that I wisely stay away from nonetheless, (usually religious rants), and every time they come up on my feed, my blood boils, and I'd rather not see them.
Can we have a way to block certain discussions? Or certain categories in the forums?
That's a good question. The religious zealots really annoy me, and the political ones get downright nasty. I once got banned for 3 days when somebody called ME names over my views! I'm just a Democrat from NJ, it's not like we have many parties to choose from in the US.
Agreed, Jean!
If I could block the 'religion' category altogether, I'd be happy.
Most of my political action commentary happens over on Face Book. ...
Actually there is a filter. Click the filter link at the top right corner of your feed. Then click edit on the filter column.
You only see things in your feed from people you are following, or topics you are following, or followers of people you are following. You can disable any one or all of these things when you edit your filter.
Glenn, I'm not sure what Liz is referring to, but I assumed it was the topical forums. I don't see any filter link there. Have I missed it?
The filter link is not in the forum. It's on the feed page.
Liz is talking about seeing forum posts in her feed that she doesn't want to see. I just reread her question to be sure.
As I mentioned in my answer above, you can adjust the filter for your feed to avoid including certain things. It's not perfect, but it's helpful. When you look at all the filter options you'll see what I mean.
I see where you mean, Glenn, but it does not show me any topics to hide. It only has a box to fill in things you want to follow, and the list below that is of things I already follow, but other than that, it only says "forum posts," generically, and there are no topics there.
I don't want to block the entire forum.
I understand. I don't block entire forum posts either. That would be terrible.
But what you can do is try to determine where the posts are coming from. Are they from followers of followers? I turned that off in my feed because it was getting too far off any subject I'm interested in. I just want to see things directly from the people I follow.
Or maybe its from something else that you can disable without disabling the forum feed itself. There are 28 filter items you can check or uncheck.
Ok...It may be from a follower of a follower, but I don't want to block all those people generically, either. Just this one guy who always seems to be on a button-pushing religious zealot rant of some kind.
I'll check further...
Okay--way at the bottom there is a button for "hidden" and under that is a single name of a person I blocked long ago--but no way to add another. They must have disabled that feature.
This has been on my mind, too...

Glenn is correct. The forum (or a particular hubber who posts on that forum) can be blocked from your feed page.
The next time you see a forum in your feed, run your mouse on the far right hand side of the forum title. You'll see a little cross there. As you run over it, you'll get a few options including blocking the story (ie the forum), blocking the topic, and blocking the most recent hubber to post on that forum.
You have the same options on any story that appears in your feed.
Hope this helps.
Ah--thank you! I'll look for that the next time I see an update to that particular post.

Hey everyone,If you look at the HubPages homepage while you’re signed in, you’ll notice quite a change: we’ve moved to a Feed-centric layout (you’ll also notice that the Feed is no longer visible in the header), and made some simplifications to the interface. Kudos to Fawntia who built this great...

We now can limit the feed, through the feed filter, to one thing--Hubs, etc. But there is no way, from what I can tell, to just exclude one thing from the feed--specifically, forum threads, which was what I was trying to exclude. I went to My Account and unfollowed forums that I had been following....

I'd love if there was a way we could customize our forum views to not see topical categories that we are not interested in reading. That way people could focus on reading that which they find relevant and eliminate those subjects they find extraneous.

Okay this is great! I downloaded it this morning, and it's really working wonderfully. We all know Edweirdo, a very clever and useful hubber who created the HubDefender tool for us all which detects hub-theft and assists in dealing with it. Edweirdo has also written many helpful tutorial hubs on...

I am being followed by someone with no hubs, who claims to have over 100 followers. As I always do with a new follower, I went to this persons profile and all their hubtivity is following other hubbers. Their off hub url is a spam ad. How do I remove them from my followers list and block them?
