Billionaire Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump said Monday that the United States should "strongly consider" shuttering some mosques as part of its efforts to prevent extremist attacks in the country.
"You're going to have to watch and study the mosques, because a lot of talk is going on in the mosques," Trump told cable broadcaster MSNBC after Friday's horrific attacks in Paris that killed at least 129 people.

Isn't there a law about separation of state and church covered by the first amendment? How can the government shut down any religious group? Yes, there are some Muslim as well as christian and other religious groups that are anti government, but is it possible?
I think this would violate the religious rights or freedom of assembly of Muslims in the involved region. It would be unconstitutional especially if there is no evidence of radicalization in such mosques.
That is an interesting question. Mainly because most churches are 501 (c)(3) organizations. There are things that are prohibited by the IRS. I'm not sure where the separation of church and state comes in with shutting down mosques but maybe it could be done.

Every time he stops being "relevant", he just say whatever stupid thing makes the media mention him again. Stop talking about him and you'll see how his numbers on the polls crash down.
Trump is a fascist at heart and will find any excuse to employ the right wing authoritarian style. He knows that he cannot do this but he plays to people with IQ's in the single digits to get them all worked up and such.
Although I agree with your assessment of Trump I think you are being unfair in your judgement of those who appear to support him. Although I disagree with their ideas on how to fix the problems in this country and I disagree with them on what the problems are in this country; disagreeing with them does not make them ignorant. I assume maybe I am simply ignorant in that I don't understand their concerns.
Insulting each other won't put any of us any closer to finding solutions.
Speaking of violating the principle of freedom of religion is not negotiable and should not pass from the lips of anyone who claims to be presidential timber. It is alarmist, sensationalist and irresponsible. While, I may have been verbally coarse in regards to those that respond to that calll, I have been more than kind in regards to the person that makes it. Maybe, I should have said that who ever buys into this needs a stiff refresher in high school civics studies? Sorry, only people with IQ's in the single digits are going to allow themselves to swept along as part of this Trump fantasy in this particular manner.

Do you think Donald Trump is right or wrong to consider closing some mosques in the US?Personally, I do not think that this should be considered because I find it biased, not proven effective, etc. but I would like to know other opinions on this idea. We did not consider closing churches for a...

Cable news sites like CNN need to be left-out of the presidential campaigns. CNN false news was caught for their sneaky-editing of what Donald Trump actually said to make it sound as if he was saying something he did not say. That is political media corruption in favor of the Democratic...

We all know it will be party-line loyalty for most voters. According to Pew Research, six percent of voters for the 2022 elections crossed party lines. For the mythical independent voter, it is a binary choice for the President. We are fortunate to be able to assess two Presidents based on criteria...

Trump wants 5.6B for his wall and he is willing to shutdown the government for an extended period of time. If the government is shutdown for an extended period of time, that means he doesn't get his 5.B for however long the government is shutdown. How does that help him get his...
