Massive earnings drop!!!

   I have been a member for quite a few years. In the beginning, I was actually excited to write because I enjoy it, yes, but also  because I did want to earn a little extra income.  I was averaging 3 to 5 dollars a day for a good couple years.   Just enough to keep me interested in writing for HubPages and also gave me a little extra spending cash; I wasn't expecting to get rich.
   
   The downfall has become in the last couple of years and it just keeps getting worse.  50 hubs, and my earnings were $.17 average for the day for the past several months.   I don't feel like wasting my time adding more hubs  for only $.15 a day and I have revised and revamped quite a few hubs several times upon taking the advice of hubpages on what I need to fix. I'm not the best writer and I don't claim to be, but I feel this is a slap in the face;  I'm sorry

      Hey, I hear you loud and clear. I was told (about my lack of comments; earnings) that during vacation months, this is normal.
      But what is "normal" today?
      I hope your earnings start to skyrocket.

         moonlake, I checked on my hub list last night to rework my older hubs and I found that one of my hubs had NO text at all. No pictures, but it had a headline. Do not tell me that THIS is due to HP niches and other elaborate changes.
         It looks as if the hub was hacked. What do I do now?

               theraggededge . . .I respect your thinking, but . . .no. I am going to take a close look for more stolen hubs. And if I do, I am  not going to be the bigger person and walk away, but look for justice.

            This is what happens when you have written so many hubs.  Every time it does, your Google rank drops...it's exactly why I keep checking!

      I took a quick look at your profile, and I see a few issues that may be the cause of your decline.
      
      First, you mostly are writing on highly saturated topics and the competition, especially the medical stuff, is killing you.  People are not going to read these types of articles by individuals who are not professionally trained in their fields when they can go to the big sites such as Med MD or American Cancer Society to get highly credible information.
      
      Second, you have a problem with titles.  Most are too long and are not really searchable.  I have always had problems with titles, but after Robin pointed me to the site I show the link for below, I'm doing much better.

      It's really important to go back to each article, update photos and captions, rework titles to make sure they are searchable and also reflect what the article is about, correct errors, etc.
      
      I've been doing this quite a bit, myself, and it is paying off, especially for those hubs I wrote when I first started, 4 1/2 years ago.
      
      One more thing.  You only have 57 hubs.  Unless each one is stellar, you really need more of them.
      
      HP is no longer a site where you can earn "passive" income.  If you want to earn those bucks, you have to work for them!

   Write some hubs that could be picked up by the new niche sites. I've only had a few transferred but already earnings have trebled since 3 months ago.

   Apart from the algorithm changes, it's simply maths ....
   
   10 years ago if I wrote something I'd have 1000 people read it.  And the Internet was new/exciting, so they clicked on ads, ads that paid well as people threw budgets at it.
   
   Roll on and 100 of those 1000 have thought "Hey I can write too". So they have also written competing pages/websites/blogs/facebook pages.
   
   Now there are 101 of us fighting for what are fewer eyes (who are more interested in what Kim Kardashian's wearing than what I wrote)
   
   So there are now 100x the number of pages where Google could shove ads - and the price of ads has dropped.  So now lower income potential from pages that have greater competition.
   
   It's a race to the bottom for many.
   
   You win some you lose some.  Either work out how to improve, or put up with what you get .... because, those are actually your only choices.

      On average advertisers are increasingly spending on ads and ad revenue which is actually causing an increase in CPM's and whatnot.
      
      However you're correct when you said that more people are fighting for people's attention even though general internet usage/viewership is also rapidly increasing in many parts of the world. You get more people going online but you also have many more writers/articles to choose from, which makes things extremely competitive than years past.
      
      So if you're new to the game then it's going to be a lot harder than it was 5-10 years ago because it appears that the rich only get richer while beginners will struggle more so than ever before.

            Which is exactly why HP has created the niche websites and why, at least for now, they seem to be doing well.
