I started to make this a Hub but I realized that:

    A) I don't have an definite answer or solution to offer on such a broad subject

    B) I really want to hear what the rest of you have to say and the "comments section" of a Hub just would not suffice for responses that may be generated.

A couple of definitions and then my thoughts:

    ***************

    **************************

I have a friend (using the term loosely) we will call "Joe." Joe hates his job and every time I speak with him, he is complaining about how much he hates it.

Joe: "I wish I could do what you do and sit around playing on the damn computer all day!"

I politely told him I would be glad to help (teach) him how to start his own online business and then explained that it was not easy but is achievable with the right knowledge and willingness to put the work in.

Joe: "Yeah, that sounds good, why don't YOU build me a website and I will split the money with you...."

It was somewhere in here that I, in a very polite and tactful manner told him to f&ck off.

    **************************

I have Christian friends who "worry about me" and "pray for me" because I am agnostic and obviously don't share their beliefs and will be damned to hell.

Nevermind the fact that I live a life that more closely resembles what their god approves of than they do...... well except for believing in and worshipping him.......

    ***************************

Then there is the family member who I approached a few years back to invest in a business I was starting with a group of others, who basically laughed in my face and told me it was a stupid idea, the odds were against us, blah, blah, blah.

This same family member goes to to the casinos religiously and plays....*drum roll please* the f&cking slot machines?!?!

Needless to say, i did and will continue to get the last laugh on this one.

    ****************************

I know this type of thing should not bother me and the above generalizations are not why I am writing this, but it does clearly illustrate the type of behavior I am talking about.

In an age where people are more worried about who got voted off of (insert reality TV show here) than.... well than just about anything else, it makes me wonder what type of world my children will inherit.

I have been here a short time now and have noticed that there are many very intelligent people hanging out here at HubPages.

This (those who proudly remain willfully ignorant) is a topic that really irritates me and more than anything else, I just want to hear what the rest of you have to say.

I take pride in knowing that I make every effort to remain open minded on all subjects, such as religion, money, race relations, politics, business concepts, etc. These are the very topics that this type of behavior and intolerance are most prevalent.

Well, Frank, I agree with you that this attitude is prevalent, but I disagree that the result will be that such people will rule the world.

I think the fact that the majority think and act this way is what makes the opportunity for the few who think DIFFERENTLY to have the health, wealth, and happiness they want.

"Today I will do what others won't, so that tomorrow I can have what others can't."

Look, we're always going to need people to do the boring jobs, so it's just as well, really, that there are so many people with bad attitudes around to do them.

Under the instruction of the people who DO rule, the world, of course. wink

I don't believe they will either, but it grabs attention lol. And the truth of the matter is that it has probably been the same way since the beginning of time.

I only listed a couple of general examples to illustrate my point but if you look closely, you can see it every day on many levels. I think the the thing that gets to me so much is when it is someone you care about and want to help, but they won't let you... unless you do it for them.

Oh, yes, I hear ya barking on that one, Frank.

I have gotten to the point where I now say "When you have something in motion, I will get behind it and help you push ..."

Still waiting for an awful lot of folks to start something. Anything!

On the other hand, one of my 12-year-olds has two websites up already, www.thatinternetgirl.com and www.genuinewitchcraft.com, and has a professional writer working on an ebook to go on her witchcraft site.

Where do you think I am likely to put my time? With someone who's "gunna", or with someone who IS?

I wasted YEEEEEEEEARS trying to steer parked cars and carry lame ducks - never again. I swear, never again ....

I have limited energy and I direct it where it is most likely to get a return of some kind of benefit to the world. Lifting dead weights is just not productive - and what's more it's soul-destroying.

Sounds like you know exactly where I am coming from, Jenny. That is awesome about your daughters websites, that is what I am trying to instill in my children and they are receptive, although they are a bit younger.

I am off to check out the sites now......

Frank, there have always and will always be those on this earth that thinks the world owes them a living. I have encountered so many people who tell me that I am ignorant for doing what I do (MLM/Network Marketing) just because they don't understand the concept nor have the willingness or desire to learn it.

There are entirely too many people who want to be rich and yet they are not willing to even learn how, much less to put forth the effort it would take to accomplish it. It is these types of people that I refer to in an article I wrote as having BDSI disease, which simply stands for "big dreams, small initiative". They sit around all day long and talk about what they would like to do or have but never willing to take initiative in reaching their goals.

The bottom line is this. You can not help anyone who does not want to be helped. Until they are unhappy enough with their circumstances to be willing to take action and do something different, all you can do is leave them in their "comfort zone" to sulk. When they get to the point of willingness, they will come to you or someone who is able to help them learn how to change things.

It is not the willfully ignorant that will rule the world - It is the people who are smart enough to take advantage of them and sell them stuff. big_smile

See corporations, Fox TV, unnecessary pharmaceuticals, individually wrapped ice cubes, individual cups of coffee, huge SUVs, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera........
