Love And Respect, From Me To You

The current climate on the Religion Forum is rather cold

I'm sending a breeze of warmth through here.

I have equal respect and love for every hubber I've come in contact with on these pages.

It is the nature of the Religion Forum that hubbers of opposing religious views find themselves in debate over theological and religious issues. This is healthy for both sides of the debate, and is to be expected. I myself come to this forum to challenge religious views that I believe are wrong. I've seen many others who do exactly the same thing, some in agreement with me, some not.

But with said religious views aside, I regard each individual hubber as a fellow human being who deserves personal respect, courtesy, and good will. This includes everyone--even the hubbers who disagree with me.

I think that regardless of one's religious persuasion, one can appreciate the principles of social decency and ethics. On a public forum like this, the majority of participants adhere to an unspoken code of conduct. We are all on equal ground here. We all come here for intellectual stimulation, to send our thoughts into the world and receive thoughts in return. Sometimes these exchanges become tense, but most of us understand the difference between an attack on a particular idea or concept, and an attack on an actual person.

If I could list all the names of the hubbers I respect, love, and appreciate, it would make a pretty long list, and no one would be left out.

If I had to make a list of all the hubbers I disrespect, dismiss, despise, and fear, it would look like this:

    ---------------------

Notice, there are no names on that list.

So, whoever you are, believer or non-believer, take this post as an offer of my love and respect. You're a person just like me, and I regard you as I regard myself.

    Thanks for dropping in.

Awww Fairbear, that was really nice!! When are you going to write a hub? I would like to read about yrou views, and how you came to them, in a paragraph or fifteen, instead of on the forums.  smile

Thank you. I'm getting closer to writing a hub. You're the first to give me an idea of what to write about. Perhaps I'll write one about just that.

That was sweet and I completely agree with you , I was ousted by Shaul because I pointed out his words and I believe but there is a possibility he is quite young. ((Big Hugs)) smile

the sad truth is, even I treat him as a kid, I think  He's old enough to be sensible, clever and a good person, which he's not. Pitty !! sad

      Thank you. You're sweet too.

I would think Shaul is young, but he's stated before that he had some kind of spiritual experience thirty years ago.

I guess that could be a lie. But I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

I know you and I have had some tense words, but I wouldn't ever want to give you the impression that I look down upon you as a person. I appreciate the opportunities you've given me to really think and see things from another viewpoint. We can disagree, but we'll always have our humanity in common. Thanks for the post. And thanks for not following Shaul on his crusade against me and the other thirteen listed hubbers.

As I have said Fairbear, and I would not want to and I apologize if I have left with that impression of me as well. smile
But as I have said, I only will not engage in argument over and over again with some on that list. I think it is great you feel the way you do about what we have talked about on here, and I appreciate your input and viewpoints as well.

I just think it is really disrespectful to keep arguing with some people who engage just for the sake of having an argument. Not really wanting to seek or find either way. You agree?

Us in having the debates we have and yes they have at times been heated. lol
But in us doing that, are we not then seeking from eachother? I think absolutely and what a great thing that is!
        smile

          You're right.
I doubt very seriously that either you or me will ever change our beliefs to accommodate each other. You'll probably always be a Christian, and I'll probably always be a non-Christian. But something inside us compels us to pry into each other. We both must have some interest in each other's beliefs. Otherwise we would never speak to each other at all.

Debate is healthy. Even in the case where both parties are immovable. But it can come to a point of being unproductive, like when it starts going in circles. If debaters want to maintain good, wholesome debate, it is possible to do so at great length. But honesty and acknowledgment of the opposing party's words is necessary.

            Absolutely!
And see even here, we find some common ground don't we? smile
