Spammers on Hubpages

   I knnow it happens all the time here on HP, but is there any way to stop this from happening? Curious!
   A thought.....could we follow their link and report them there? Or is this just something that HP and the rest of us have to deal with/ignore?

      The best thing to do is use the report button to flag the post, and then NOT actually post anything in the thread.  Otherwise the spam header and replies will remain on the forums.
      
      I know that the CDkey spammer is a bad one, and admin is on this person as I got a reply from the team in response to some accounts I flagged.  HubPages has banned them, but they keep creating new sign-ups, and I suspect they are able to change the IP address on their end, as HubPages can block those too, but not if they keep using new ones.

   I did use the "report" button with message.  Would hope there would be a way to better screen this problem.

      It works pretty well.  You can't expect an instant response - they're a small team.  Just hit the report button, and ignore the post.  It will disappear and they'll get banned.

   Unless they had full time 24 hour moderators then I doubt it.  The spammers are getting smart and putting their stuff on at night when the offices are closed.
   
   I dont know but maybe Hubpages could some how have 24 hour moderators and I am sure if this keeps up it will be something they look at.

   Can't remember if HP has a e-mail validation before joining the site. If they don't, maybe it would help. I know most places makes you verify e-mail first.

   HP has a email validation , but , it is only for getting fan mails. HP has to be more strict.

   Hubpages should take some immediate action like allowing accounts to be created based on Mobile Number Verification.  Only accounts that are verified should be allowed to make forum posts or create new hubs.
   
   Email verification is the oldest method and it has many loop holes , so that people can easily create new email ids and use them to create false accounts here at hubpages. This is now necessary for creating Gmail accounts for some locations.

      Not at all. Most are looking for long-term traffic/links to whatever they're peddling. Report, remove and repeat - all but the most persevering will give up.

    I think they should take up a team of some volunteer hubbers that would go through and approve hubs after they are submitted. If it isn't approved, they could review them themselves to make sure that there was an appropriate reason for it to not be approved.
    
    Heck, I've got no life but my kids and I'm on the computer all day. I'd be willing to help approve them and I would do it as a volunteer. If they get enough volunteers, it could just be a few minutes to approve the new hub.
    
    I wonder if they could make a system like that.

       You can do this already yourself, and many Hubbers do. Just click on "Hubbers" then choose "latest" and you'll see the newest members.  Then see if they've written anything, and flag anything bad.
       
       I used to do this by clicking on "Hubs", but with the 30 day challenge there are too many good new Hubs so the spammers don't float to the surface so much!

    If we report and then ignore the spammers and let the HP team do their job, I'm not sure that there is any damage done. I can hardly imagine a spammer getting hub and hubber scores high enough to get any DoFollow links from HP. It's annoying, but outside of that, I just flag and ignore.

    Yes, but I meant that they will have to be approved before they are published. At least for new people that sign up.

       I know you did, but that requires setting up a whole new system - either the volunteers have to have access to HP's internal workings, or the Hubs have to be emailed to volunteers.  It all creates extra programming or extra work. 
       
       Why go through that, when we already have the facility, as volunteers, to check Hubs at any time any day.  Of course, that means spam Hubs will exist for a few hours - but that's really immaterial.
