Two Suggestions Regarding Following

   Hello Everyone,
   
   Just two suggestions I know would help me out.
   
   1.  An Auto Follow setting.  If you select it, anyone who follows you, you'll automatically follow them.
   
   2.  A star or other notation next to our followers indicating we are following them too.
   
   With the way the list constantly rearranges, it's hard to tell who I am following in my list of followers without having to open up each of their profiles.  I tried keeping a hand-written list for awhile, but that was too cumbersome.

         It's no one's business but my own who I chose to follow, and since that info is readily available in my statistics area, nothing further is required.

   Really an auto follow selection is not a good idea.  If we had it 500 spam hubbers that write about their online pharmacy sales might follow you, and then you would be signed up to automatically follow them!  Not sure about you, but would you like get those type of hub notifications each day?

      This is why I suggested it be something you can select or not select.  I've never had the problem you describe.

   Why not just keep the list of people you're following down to a manageable level in the first place?

      Most people on here follow or are being followed by hundreds.  I'm not sure how hundreds are ever very manageable.
      
      These are suggestions that would help me.  It would be nice to find others who agree rather than having argumentative day, which is not the spirit I've ever found HubPages to be, so I'm pretty surprised.

         Not everyone in life is going to agree with you.  And not everyone on HP follows hundreds of people! 
         
         Sorry, that sounded a bit sarcastic.  But I have to say I wouldn't really welcome the possibility that I might end up with hundreds of spam emails as a result of an autofollow feature that I accidentally forgot to uncheck.

         Kind Regards, that's not true.  I may have hundreds of followers, but I follow a select group of excellent writers whose work genuinely interests me.  That's how it's supposed to work, because the whole idea is that when you get the email, you're supposed to be opening and reading the Hubs your favourite Hubbers write.  You can't do that if you just follow for the sake of getting followers.
         
         Apart from that, if you follow hundreds of Hubbers, your HubScore can be penalized.
         
         I would be strongly against any kind of auto-follow.  As some others have commented, there is already a tendency for HubPages to look like a social networking site and auto-follow would only encourage that.

   I do like the idea of a universal notification that appears around the site to let you know which hubbers you are following.
   
   I disagree with the need for an auto-follow feature as this seems too spammy and like twitter. If you have trouble keeping up with who follows you, simply go to the feed and select followers to see who has recently followed you. You can then read their hubs and decide to follow or simply blindly follow whoever you want from that list.

   I haven't ran into the spam problem and I'm not worried about it.
   
   In the beginning, I didn't automatically follow everyone who followed me, but I've learned that there's always something new to learn from everyone.
   
   I've discovered by checking out some hubbers I may not normally read I've learned some different things, so I've changed my philosophy.
   
   Now I'd prefer to show camaraderie and follow my followers and learn something new.
   
   Also, the key here is that it's an option.  Either check the box to enable it or don't check it.

   I don't follow everyone who follows me and I don't expect those I follow to follow me, and I do not want to have it become automatic.

      That's actually a good idea.
      
      It'll stop the fammers/spollowers from striving to be Mr or Mrs Popular.
