What the hell does she know? Palin still thinks she can become president by being mayor of Wasilla Alaska and not finishing up a term as governor of a far-flung state.

Obama is from Hawaii or Kenya depending on your source.

texan what are you talking about. w and his dad are texans. w's ranch is right  in crawford and his mom and dad's house is in houston.they have another house in new england i don't think you are a texan . w's wife left him and lives in dallas. but they are not divorced. his dad was the #2 guy in the iran/contra affair. in case you don't remember or in your case  you just don't know. him and ronnie reagan smuggled cocaine from iran, sold it on the streets of america to buy guns and got caught. they used colonel oliver north as the scape goat.but you don't ever discuss that, remember that or i don't even think you know that. i say to you the republicans have wrecked everything . i guess you forgot that too huh. ya know it's the sore losers that generally  run around  blocking stuf and  complaining. when bush took over we had a 236 billion dollar surplus. when President Obama took over we had a 3 trillion dollar deficit. wake up!! do you think that the public doesn't see that ha ha ha  if yawl knew how to do it . . . . you would be in office today and we wouldn't be in the recession. what is complex about this issue to you?

Nor did I.  Barry Goldwater scared me, and then LBJ out-escalated him during the Viet Nam War.  (With me in the Army at the time, no less.)

It's funny how Bush W and Dick Cheney are also Chickenhawks. I was born in Ft. Hood Texas and raised in Texas. I still live in Texas... My father was drafted to serve in the Vietnam War... He died when I was 9 from a service connected disability he experienced from getting injured... So it's funny to me how two individuals who dodged military service could be so war hungry and get away with criticizing someone (John Kerry) who actually served his country.

If feel sorry for anyone that did not finish watching the State o the Union last night. I just watched it and I think that Obama is right on key. Running the goverment is like running a company and that is what Obama is doing.

I just watched it because I didn't have time last night to do so I was impressed. I have been saying for a year that Obama is going to show that he won't take no Bull and he won't he is not in it to be popular he is in it to help us the people.

Has everyone in the United States forgotten what we staand for? WE THE PEOPLE ARE THE UNITED STATES and if we do not stand behind our leader then we are not UNITED!

As I have said before and I will say agian UNITED WE STAND & UNITED WE FALL! You choose where you stand I know where I stand.

Sara was struggling to say anything that wasn't directly relatable to a future campaign attack....

Her words not only sounded overly repeated (she must have been working real hard)....staged (roboting even)....and filled with buzzwords (socialist/liberal...really, can't we do better than this?)...that, especially compared to the President's address, appeared rather infantile....

It is saddening to know that there are people who actually take her seriously.....

    here are a few...

Bill Clinton came from Arkansas.  Not exactly a big money state.  Where you come from is less important than who you are and what you stand for.

What Sarah Palin knows is how to connect with people.

She draws giant crowds wherever she goes.

The Best Leader is not the person with the most education, it's the person that can connect with the needs and desires of the people.

    Not true....

I suppose Hitler would have been a great leader....

The best leader is the one who makes the tough decisions when the people don't desire it...... "connection" with "people" are not words that you can brandy about with a broad paintbrush...

The United States is far from any idealistic place to use such imagery....

Tough decisions.....like standing against business/military interests leading to the invasion of Iraq.....

Very brave ma'am....those types of words of yours speak of something far worse....what are you trying to say???

Obama "arrogant".......where have you been over the entirety of the Bush administration?

are you inferring the word "uppity"?

Be careful...what you don't say may say more than whay you actually state....

Of course he was lecturing, it was well deserved. Have any of you been paying attention to politics over the past year?

The Democratic party is worthless and the Republicans, apart from being wrong on essentially every issue, and drama queen idiots to boot, are similarly useless, their only ability being to kill any attempt at progress with parliamentary trickery.

Democrats should be angry because their party thinks that the majority of 100 is 60 and Republicans should be angry because their party is filled with politicians, meant in the most derisive sense, who offer no constructive alternatives, but rather just bitch and whine, often lying to do it.

And everyone should be angry at the Supreme Court, which continues to uphold the absurd fiction that corporations are people. The best analysis I've yet heard of the decision is this: that it is a mirror image of the Dredd Scott case. Instead of deciding that a person was in fact property, the court has made the reverse error: deciding that property (or worse, a simple legal fiction) is in fact a person.

The whole thing is a absurd.

"A conservative is a man with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned to walk forward."

      Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882 - 1945),

The party of no is still weaving a web of propaganda.  The funny thing is that as slow as they are to accept change they expect Obama to perform miracles of change overnight.

We don't expect him to perform miracles at all, we expect him to change the makeup of this Country just like he said he wanted to. We expect him to act in a partisan manner and then cause the implosion of the Democrat party, he is not disappointing us.

Who gives one shit what FDR said?

Dragging the US into the modern world is no easy task, Texan. Give the man a chance. He seems a very average kind of politician but that is a big advance on what has gone before.

Change doesn't have to be frightening, especially when the changes are so modest and have already been tried and tested in so many other countries successfully.

    "Lecture"

on one hand this can be perceived though someone "tsk tsk"ing, like a parent...or the minister

and then there is the type that one would find in a university classroom....

I didn't see either of these....I saw someone talking about his past year, pointing out issues, and laying forward potential new policies.....I also saw conservatives "harumphing" and grumbling.....

no one is talking about that....

conservatives are in both parties...and arguably there are more "conservative democrats" than "liberal republicans"-twisting the perception of the party majority in the legislature..

this type of ongoing divisiveness, however, goes on to demonstrate how "ununited" the U.S. population is...which is nothing new....we have always teetered on the brink of civil dischord..or even waded through that river a few times....and we have not seen the end of it...not by a longshot...

Sarah Palin knows very little about Government.  Everytime she opens her mouth, she proves it.  I sincerely hope the Republicans run her for President in 2012!  Perhaps they can even get Rush Limbaugh to run for Vice President!

Rush may have a problem with that.  He is the defacto leader of the Republican Party.

I remember with the US facing the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression especially after the bank collapses; John McCain (who selected Palin as his running mate) described the economy as "fundamentally sound"...  and believed the Iraq War was one of (if not) the main US issues.

  21. mikelong profile image60
    mikelongposted 14 years ago

What many people don't know is this:

The U.S. was in the grips of the Great Depression....and the United States government rounded up Mexican Americans...many of them citizens...and trucked and trained them out of the country...

and it is all covered up...almost...

From Chicago to San Diego and all in between....(Texas too)..kicked out...no questions regarding citizenship...no investigations...just "looks like a Mexican" and out you go....

Mi Familia is an excellent film that,in passing, shows the effects of this act of aggression...

How many people here learned about this exportation of population in history class??

and then we start up the Bracero Program a decade or so later...not even that long....

How many here have heard of this government program??

Think about this stuff when you are hit with "conservatives"...learn about these things..and then ask questions yourself and see how well others respond....

They tend to get the deer in the headlights look, from my experience...

Well, you're one sad and sorry human being if you can only conjure yourself to care about things which directly affect you, empathy being one of humanities great virtues. Not to mention that you should give particular care given that you, presumably, live in Texas and could thus actually affect the situation.

P.S. I might add that this does affect you, and me, by, if it goes through, lowering the quality of education future generations will get. You know, future generations which we will interact with.

P.P.S. It certainly doesn't "effect" me, not causing me to come into being. Nor, of course, does it affect me, except indirectly.

This is very kind of you. You leave me with the satisfaction and amusement that either A) You really are fool enough to believe me to be the same person as Mike Long or B) You, being cowardly in argument, have backed down from actually trying to refute what I say and have instead sunk to the level of unjustified and, frankly silly and somewhat sad, name-calling. Of course, it may be both.

I nearly forgot the additional point, that I have the entertainment of seeing someone so fully in the thrall of an ad hominem fallacy, believing that, because I might be Mike Long in disguise, I am incapable of speaking the truth. It really is amazing what silliness the human mind is capable of.

Texan...you only further embarrass yourself...and the sad part is that you are too blind to see it...

Perhaps your educational system failed you...

You stated that you have a teaching credential, I feel for your students.....

No one needs to take my place, and I have no reason to take on a false identity...the fact that you would even think about this hints at perhaps something that you might pursue....there is always something to read into what isn't directly written...

You call out against criminals.....yet you defend them....like defending Bush and Cheney...

You call others incompetent....but yet you seem to do a better job living up to that word than the President does...and the support of those like flightkeeper only furthers the compounding of your baseless way of viewing the world....

If you are truly an educator....it is you and those like you whom I blame for the failing youth of our nation....

Incompetence is believing that it is better to lie than tell the truth.....

Incompetence is shown when people look at Mexico or Honduras, point to the problems in those nations and says "their problems are their own fault"...

Crime is when AAMCO can open up a factory deep in Mexico to pay 50 dollars per week for a 12 hour work day 6 days per week...with no job security....while Americans who AAMCO formerly employed lose their jobs and wonder what they have to do next....

Incompetence is shown when people ignore the problems of globalization....perpetuated by the same "conservatives" who claim to care about the struggling American.....

I think a few people here need to live in a place where they have no rights...no protections, and no justice....

If only some here could be stuck laboring in a sweatshop...or better, I think they should have to live with their families in places like Juarez.....and have their young daughters travel dangerous roads to work......and hope that they return alive and unmolested...

False, unearned privilege leads to false pride....something too many here exhibit....

  27. mikelong profile image60
    mikelongposted 14 years ago

And I think Texan, you should have to face the families of American servicemen killed in Iraq and Afghanistan because KBR decided to skimp out on the electrical wiring on military bases...or because KBR decided that it wasn't important enough to treat the water that our soldiers would be drinking......

You call out ACORN (who's woes ended up to be caused by "conservative" frauds) while protecting through neglect (willful I think) of those who profit from war and destruction...

then again...you sir were the one running around calling names...instigating and initiating all the harmful rhetoric that this posting and others have shown...and you laugh about it...which only makes you look worse...

    how sad and pathetic...

I wonder who the real person behind the avatar is.....

Topsy-Turvy Dolls...A must read for all disillusioned Americans.

    by MFB III

*See Photo of dolls @ my hub

    It is dolls like these,
    that should have
    given us pause
    before we voted.

    Not some dolled up
    Sarah Palin,
    in her $150,000.00
    dollar designer clothes,
    Plus $22,000.00 dollar
    makeup fees per week,
    and $10,000.00 dollar
    hairstylist fees for ten days.

    These Topsy-Turvy dolls
    were what little girls
    like her played with,
    not that long ago,

    Under one skirt
    a black servant,
    under the other
    the lady of the house.

    Back when civil rights
    were anything but civil.

    It's toys like these
    that also should
    make us take note
    Of one rich, white,
    good ol'boy senator,
    who said before
    the last debate,
    "I'm gonna whip his-
    (Obama's)- you now what!"
such a slip of the tongue,
    or was he echoing
    perhaps a time.....
    when black men
    where whipped,
    for you know what?

    And our newest
    South Cackalacky
    Republican senator
    who said
    "We can't hand feed
    all the animals in need,
    they simply get nourished
    and then continually reproduce
    more sorrow."

    It's dolls like these,
    not the Republican'ts Barbie,
    that should make us realize
that we all owed a debt
    incurred by our lineage,
    to a minority population
    that is a vibrant
    part of our nation.

It was time that we elected,
    someone from a
    long oppressed race,
    to the highest office possible,
not out of guilt, but out of pride,
    that America has at
    long last come so far!!

    We have had our
    fill of rich white boys,
    sucking off the fatted calf,
hand feeding the wealthiest among us,
lobbying around endless whim and desire
by the masters of the almighty dollar.

    For once in our lives
we sought to make a true change,
    nothing would've been worse
    then the curse of bush,
    re-perpetuated in Mcpain and
    Palin by comparison.
    except more of the same,
    with her shrill soprano
    whines and winks
    thrown in for good measure.

    The American dream
    isn't about becoming rich
    and then being president,
    it's about becoming president
    and then enriching the nation.

    And so we voted
    on November fourth,
    while there were
    men and women
    dying in two countries
    to find one man
    all waiting hopefully
    to at last
    see some true results.

    Poverty and health care
    were walking hand in hand
    to dumpsters and early graves.

    Schools were closing,
    banks were closing,
    businesses were folding,
    education was struggling to
    meet students needs.

The economy was in the toilet,
    very few are flush anymore,
    most all of our production
    was outsourced
most all of our goods imported.

    Joblessness continues
    to grow worse,
    as a result.

    And yet the Republican's
are moaning that it all should
    have been fixed
    in Obama's first year,
    when it took bush 8
    to screw it all up.

    They harrang and persecute
    everything he's tried to do,
    considering themselves
    masters overseeing whatever
    he attempts to accomplish.

    Filling the airwaves with
    useless endless negatives,
    nothing but negatives,
    a rabid fox hunt hounding
those who are trying to lead us
    to a place of promise.

    Nothing of such magnitude
    as Obama is facing
can be fixed by any man
    who claims the know how
    in such a short time.

    The problems
    besetting him
    are Humongous.
    And yet These
    republican's are
    are more worried about,
    abortion rights,
    phony birth certificates,
    regaining the majority vote
    and health care reform
    without any cost
    or mercy to 31 million
    who don't have it.

    Where was their
    virulent impatience
    and daily touted angst
    when a stammering stuttering
    false savior they idolized
    occupied the White House
    and did little on
    any of these issues??

    Where was the rush
    to fix health care then
    and where was thier
    fair and balanced plan?
    Where were their ideas
    to stop the banks
    from diddling away
    our nations fortunes??
    and did any of
    them truly work
    after Bush left office
    ....NOT!!

    Where were these
    false put ons
    over all the issues they
    now pin on Obama,
    when they had the majority;
    when they ruled the masses;
    when they neglected everything;
    they now bitch constantly about??

    Pious, pompous hypocrites
    stirring a poisoned tea
    much like Jim Jones
    and his Kool Aid
    seeking to victimize
    us all back
    to the Bush legacy
    on an island of sorrows.

    Even Rush Limbaugh
    admitted that he can't
    believe the insanity
    of how many Americans
    buy into the absolute
    bullshit he spins daily.

    And Obama is left
    with a long bucket list
    of what they expect
    him to get done
    even while they are
    enslaving him to failure.

    They are the
    21st century
    Topsy-turvy
    dolls of this century
    seeking to sweep the
    troubles of the minorities
    under the skirts of mistruth
    and restore the endless wealth
of greed and damn the common man
to the throne they failed to hold.

    They had eight
years to fix all of this,
    what makes you think
    they deserve any more
    in 2010 or any other
    year to come??

    Give Obama his due,
    Support your president and get
the hell off of the sidelines
    before we are all
    benched once more
    in a game we can't
    hope to win.

    Drown Out the naysayers.
    Find out who
    pays the salaries
    and then stop
    supporting the sponsors
    of all the endless negative
    radio talking heads
    that are determined
    to undermine
    and split our nation
    into two warring factors
    based on half truths,
    suppositions
    and outright lies.

    Otherwise look forward to
    the nightmares we knew under
    the bush cheney regime.

    I am done preaching
    to the choir for now.
    Start singing the blues
back into red white and blues
    before the silent majority
    leaves the sanctuary of hope.

    And if you are one
    of the 31 million
    who are uninsured,
get off your duffs and vote
    come 2010, and speak
    out loudly now,
    throw a free cheese party,
    remember that fiasco?

    Flood the hospitals
    with your sick and ailing
they do have to treat you.
    Stand outside in long
    endless lines till they do.
    create some kind of
    movement before
    you wind up back under
    the uncaring power
of those who are seeking to
    let you languish and die.

They offer no hope for you
even now as they condemn Obama
    you have to create
    it for yourselves.

And if you know of someone
who does not have health care
    in your nation that holds
    such wealth and waste
    in the health care fields,
how can you stomach your own care?

    Speak out and defend
    those who have nothing.
It is the Christian thing to do,
    It is the moral majority's
    task to fulfill otherwise
    how do you dare
    claim to be moral
    when you deny the
    verse that says
    in your bible,
    feed the hungry,
    care for the sick,
    tend to the elderly
    house the homeless,
    aid the children.
It's all there in black and white,
    but it's not happening here
in the red, white and blues.

    Or perhaps
    you think there is
    a way to get a
    camel through
    the eye of a needle
    and a rich man into
    the kingdom of heaven,
    thereby calling your
    own God a liar.

    It is long past time
    for activists to rise
    and meet the challenge
    of those who seek
    to dum down the
    needy and the sick.
    Where the hell are you
    and why aren't you
    making some noise.
    Show me some real Americans
standing up for God and country
and not for the almighty dollar.

Anyone who can shoot a moose from helicopter deserves to be President of the US.

She will be a worthy successor to the guy no one would buy a used car off, the second rate actor and that drunk who pretended he was from Texas.

Well meaning but flawed is a great qualification in the US.

Intelligent and capable after all= an elitist know all, with aspirations above his station.

like the netherlands, right Texan...like Britain...

Oh wait, you don't care about what others do...you have already made that plain...

Why should people look the the self-centered and selfish for thought?

    I don't....

No comeback concerning your state's pride and joy KBR huh?

    Enron?

Criminals?  You were saying so much in your ACORN hub abour being against crime...but yet you seem to have no problem with your state's housing and enabling of crimes against the American taxpayer, the American serviceman/woman, or the non-Anglo-American....

    Hypocrisy I call it........

    A sham in sheeps clothing...

    I think you'd like that....

But, being that you were thinking that someone else was me, I wonder if fantasies of mikelong aren't running in your head....

Is this your way to avoid responding to your "below average" comment?

Check the stats...the U.S. is below average on quite a few things...

and we don't get our fair share back out for what we pay....

George Bush's No Child Left Behind Act...mandating "changes" while not providing the required funds........pumping up localized costs...while cutting education at the Federal level...and then sending that money off to the bank accounts of Dick Cheney and other cronies vis a vis Halliburton, KBR, and their ilk...

I remember George Bush's statemens regarding the "surplus" he inherited....he said...(and it is recorded..find it on youtube..or actually one of my own articles) that the surplus money needed to be redistributed back out....

That is where our surplus went....it was given to the wealthiest in tax cuts......

    criminal....

and you could be his accomplice..

"I have let the inner redneck come out a few times"

(an exerpt from on of Texans hubs)

"and have come close to pulling people through my computer screen to give them the beating they so deserve"

(another exerpt from the same hub by Texan)

These say a lot......I don't even need to make a further comment...

    But I will

Violence and willed ignorance are both encased in this persons body...

It's too bad they can't be exorcised somehow....

    Bush was an idiot.

    Obama is a wuss.

There, we can all agree that both presidents suck.

    Republicans, you suck.

    Democrats, you suck.

Can we get someone competent, please?  For the LOVE OF GOD.
