My twins are now 32 months old and my daughter has been using the potty for several months and things are going fine. My issue is that my son refuses to poop in the toilet. He demands to have a diaper put on and then he goes into a separate room, request privacy and does his business.  If I attempt to put him on the toilet he screams, cries and hits. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Misha's reply is spot on.
I've got six kids, including a set of twins. I don't think potty 'training' is even the right word for it. They come out of nappies when they are ready and not before.
      No issues.
What I used to do the summer of their second birthday is let them run around without a nappy. They soon learn the feeling of cold wet knickers isn't nice LOL
By their 3rd summer they'd be out of nappies, but even if they weren't, so long as they are clean by the time they are 5 and go to school you've no problems.
And it's true, girls are a little bit more mature than boys.

i think its typical for girls to be "ready" first. so the fact that your daughter is doing it and your son is lagging a bit is not surprising. just be patient. and accept that this may be his bathroom habits for the time being, until he adjusts. smile
at least he's going on the potty!!!

a LOT of potty trained kids, especially boys, on the playground i go to have #2 issues. smile so its normal. he just needs his privacy! big_smile

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like patients and privacy is the best solution.

My mother always made potty training a game between my brother and I. She would say, "Whoever poops the most into the toilet today will get a piece of candy." Sounds strange, but it worked. And she always said we "tied" when we both used the toilet so we both got a piece of candy.

    Hi
We had a similar issue with our son. He was peeing very happily in the potty but refused to sit down to poop. Worse, he would poop in his pants at the most inopportune time such as when we were out shopping or visiting friends.
In the end we got some advice from a paediatrician who suggested we just put him back in diapers all the time. I tried it and said to him in a very gentle way that I didn't think he was ready to come out of them yet and that when he thought he was a big enough boy he could let me know. Within two days he was coming to me and asking me to take the diaper off so he could sit on the potty.
I think the reason it worked so well was because it removed all the conflict and stress from the issue.
Good luck. I know just how hard going it can be and now just how tired one feels of changing diapers but this phase will pass sooner than you know.

I had the same problem with both of my sons. They just didn't care!! I have a wonderful older woman friend who gave me the best advice. She said, they will do it, when they do it. Its only causing you stress. her advice "If they aren't potty trained by college, let their room mate train them." as soon as i calmed down about it. They pooped in the potty, and we all had a poop in the potty party.oh yeah. lemonade to drink and bownies for a snack. The special guests ( yeah for grandma and grandpa) brought big boy underwear as a present. good luck

LOL LOL  sounds like it's just a boy thing so relax.
My two boys did the same thing. No problem peein in the toilet but the oldest  would hunker down behind the couch or chair. I even tried puttin the potty next to the couch and he just moved it out of his way.

    Youngest....same thing.

I just finally made them both clean themselves up and it wasn't long after that they were askin for the toilet.

Kids are just strange little beings enjoy them now. smile
