I give to charities, but know what makes me mad? When you give to one and they share your information with a zillion other charites. Then your phone rings off the hook with folks begging for money to save the tree frogs, the two-tailed platypus, and blind Tahitian lesbians, just to name a few. And some of these people are extremely pushy and just won't take "no" for an answer! I'm not rich, and there's no way I can donate to every cause on Earth.
Anyone else had a similar problem?
What is your phone number again? I'm curious about those two headed blind lesbian frogs.
whats with the snake in all ur replies ??
Some of the things read on these forums cause me to recoil
Yep! My businesses all gave to charities, and I really got fed up with being expected to carry all sorts of charities that were near useless to people in need. All the local sports and social clubs for example. The worst was the police force magazine subscription. They drove me nuts! They continued to pester me for years, some of them!
Do you have the info on the Tahitian lesbians? I could save a couple!
Misha, that's what I do now, also. I had to learn the hard way!
I have to agree with Misha's method. When I give, I donate directly. I don't want my money to pay for fancy offices, nice suits, administrative salaries ($$$) and the waste that is involved. I am sure this is not ever charity, so I will only help a few.
Preethi, if you knew Randy, you wouldn't have to ask! Let's just say it fits his personality. lol.
Besides, he's so handsome that his wife won't let him use his real pic!
Hey Tex! Since Texas is going to secede can we buy the Longhorns? I hate to see them sold to USC.
I thought we were going snow skiing today. I had the jumps all ready for you.
Our Canadian government did an interesting thing. We have no telemarketing registry. I think the whole country registered, lol. I haven’t been bothered in almost a year
It was too late. If the snow/ice is still here in the morning, Mel and I might come out in the morning. Remember? She told you what we wanted for breakfast!
Fine! You want a double helping of hog brains and scrambled eggs as usual. Right?
Not that we would want Georgia, we have enough High School teams in Texas!
Yes I know, I watched one of them in the BCS championship
Yes, but the quarterback left after a few minutes.
And that was a good thing for the pride of the SEC.
Actually, I prefer calves' brains. But make sure it's from a really smart cow. The last one you scrambled up was from a dumb bovine, and it tasted funny.
Hey, Tex - don't be bad-mouthing the Dawgs! Thems fightin' words!!
Serving up "like a bull" I think you meant to say! Nite holle!
I love the Dawgs! My daughter has one of Uga VI's grandsons. He's so cute!
I never prefer to spend my money on religious charities. And if i want to help anyone then i prefer to donate funds directly.
I donate to various charities and as soon as I gave to one my mail box was stuffed with requests of donation..I haven't gotten calls but tons of mail.
I gave up on a lot of charities a long time ago, there is still a couple I donte to, but the spam messages asking me to give, the guilt trip they call 'sponsorship', which once used to be about climbing a mountain, now it's walking a mile, and the people who constantly harass you on the street.
I didn't used to mind giving to charity, but now they just annoy the hell out of me.
"Chuggers"? I HATE them. I particularly hate when they're in zig-zag formation, so you have to do what I call the high street slalom to avoid them.
They get round the "no tin rattling allowed" laws by using direct debit forms instead. Urgggh.
I get extremely pi$$ed off by the whole idea of sponsoring someone's holiday, for example: "I'm trekking up Mt Kilimanjaro for Save the Children, sponsor me". I will never ever donate to a charity which promotes this type of stuff.
If I do donate to charity, it is usually to a very small one that either acts locally or concentrates its efforts on a specific location somewhere else in the world. Charities that are run entirely by volunteers take priority over those with paid staff.
I was once employed by a charity. It made me sick to see the events they organised for their big corporate sponsors. Lots of smarmy top executives swilling wine and stuffing food, and our director and trustees brown-nosing them. When I questioned the morality of spending so much, I was told it was OK because the events were sponsored by one of our sponsor companies. However, it still meant money was being spent on this crap instead of going to the cause we were supposedly promoting. Blech!
Habee - love your way with words, tickles me.
I just have a direct debit that goes to a certain charity every month. I've had it for years. Any others, maybe people collecting in shopping centres - I just give a little cash.
That way your phone number isn't shared.
Our country is full of good-hearted, generous people who are always willing to help someone in need. I really hate how these nationally organized so-called "charities" are set up to take advantage of that. And those charities that advertise on television should be ashamed of themselves. Imagine the good things they could do with the thousands of dollars they're spending on all that air time!
Like you all, I contribute directly to causes I think are within my reach, for example, I knit childrens outer wear and blankets for Afghans for Afghans, and crate pads for animal shelters, and am also in a Prayer Shawl ministry. One knitting circle I'm in knits toys and washclothes for a children's charity and winter hats for homeless shelter residents. I also serve lunch at an outdoor church for the homeless.

If you could give away a million dollars at this very moment, how would you disburse the funds? Keep in mind you do not need it and cannot keep it for yourself?
