Aside from the delightful, witty repartee of certain SuperHubsters, do comments matter?
I see that some hubs elicit long chains of commentary. Comments, please:-)!
Comments aren't necessary for a successful hub, earnings-wise, but a lot of users derive great personal satisfaction from them. They also help to keep your page fresh in Google's eyes in the same way as a changing RSS feed or news feed, since when they crawl the page, they see comments as "new content." This can contribute to better search rankings and therefore search engine traffic.
Also, comments are a pretty decent variable in making up your HubScore, which if high enough could get you on the Hot Hubs list...and that will get you some great traffic.

So in other words, yes - comments are pretty important.
Thank you! And thanks for the great primer (FAQ) on using HubPages. Goes to show you can teach old scribes new tricks:-)!
Thank you both. And if I might ask, how does one increase one's fan base?
Well, participate in these Forums, give some good, solid requests, make great, insightful comments on other Hubs and write Hubs that are enjoyable and informative.
Sounds easy, right?
Been working on those zingy comments to other hubs:-).
Once this election is over, I'll start skewing my own hubs more toward the "informative" and less toward the "enjoyable" or even silly!
Good suggestion, Ryan. Thanks again!
No problem, let me know if you need anything else - welcome to HubPages!
Welcome to Hubpages!
I like to look at comments as a little footprint. It shows me a clearer picture of the kinds of folks I'm reaching rather than staring at dry Google Analytics numbers and going "Hmmmm..."
Aha! What self-respecting writer wouldn't prefer to see who's drawn to her work vs. a cold, clinical Google assessment? Thanks, Gamegirl.
Here's to qualitative + personal feedback ...
just write about interesting things and comments are bound to happen!

I have been pinning my Hubs on Pinterest for a few months now, and about 70 of my Hubs are now pinned. I have also had several of my pins to Hubs shared by others on Pinterest. Despite all of this, I do not have one single click from Pinterest showing up in my HubPages traffic...

There are two newly discovered hubbers who have only posted raw translations by using online translating tool, what they did was merely copy and paste the results without doing any further modifications. From the comments they replied, you can tell they don't really understand much English. Even...

So I've deleted all of the idled hubs so far and am wondering when I will have none left. I'm not going to edit anymore until I see some sort of improvement in traffic. Too much trouble for no results at all. With all of the scrapers and with HP's brilliant program I'll soon have...

Why do you think the hub with the highest score was scored higher than your others? Interested to know.
