Believed to have been extinct since 1964, A specimen of the species - Republica Intelligus - has been spotted in Washington.

The specimen, nicknamed David Frum, was heard uttering thoughtful phrases such as:

Rush Limbaugh, "a walking stereotype of self-indulgence -- exactly the image that Barack Obama most wants to affix to our philosophy and our party."

when Congress approved President Obama's overhaul, conservatives and Republicans "suffered their most crushing legislative defeat since the 1960s."

"A huge part of the blame for today's disaster attaches to conservatives and Republicans ourselves,"  "At the beginning of this process we made a strategic decision: unlike, say, Democrats in 2001 when President Bush proposed his first tax cut, we would make no deal with the administration. No negotiations, no compromise, nothing. We were going for all the marbles. This would be Obama's Waterloo -- just as healthcare was [Bill] Clinton's in 1994. . . .

"This time, when we went for all the marbles, we ended with none."

Unfortunately, before the specimen could be studied, in hopes of discovering other intelligent conservatives; he was eaten by rabid members of his own species.

      Don't you mean RINO-republica Stupidus?
And he's not the first.  Colin Powell, Arlen Specter, and Schwarzenneger each either defected in part or in whole.
...I think Powell started the crap.  Very poor example of a good Republican.

Really? Can we get him back and give the US  Harper. He will never say anything thoughtful, I'm sure. Seems he would fit better in the states.

So your idea of a smart conservative is someone who turns his back on conservatism?

I think that just means he's really a liberal.

He didn't turn his back on conservatism.  He exposed the critical flaws of teabagging philosophy.  The idiots predictably shot the messenger rather than heed his warnings.

When the Republicans finally close up shop for good, they will look back to this blunder and wish for a second chance.

You are funny, in just a few short months you're going to be wondering where all that political leverage went.

This is why the Republican party is shrinking.  You're defending the crazy ones and kicking out the sane ones.

"When Rush Limbaugh said that he wanted Obama to fail, he was intelligently explaining his own interests. What he omitted to say -- but what is equally true -- is that he also wants Republicans to fail.

If Republicans succeed -- if they govern successfully in office and negotiate attractive compromises out of office -- Rush's listeners get less angry. And if they are less angry, they listen to the radio less and hear fewer ads for Sleep Number beds.

So today's defeat for free-market economics and Republican values is a huge win for the conservative entertainment industry. Their listeners and viewers will be even more enraged, even more frustrated, even more disappointed in everybody except the responsibility-free talkers on television and radio. For them, it's mission accomplished.

For the cause they purport to represent, however, the "Waterloo" threatened by GOP Sen. Jim DeMint last year regarding Obama and health care has finally arrived all right: Only it turns out to be our own."

The penalty for saying the world is not flat or the sun does not revolve around the earth - is excommunication. Frum was just fired by the conservative American Enterprise Institute. I did not agree with him often, but he was sane. The lunatics have complete control of the asylum.... This is not a good thing.
