I have not seen this post question as of yet, and because it is now relevant to an article in queue, was wondering if a long hub is considered a good-not good thing. The one I am working on is already 1k word count and at completion will exceed nearly 5k, maybe even 6k, not including images, and extras. Is this considered too long of a Hub? I am apprehensive about doing Part 1, Part 2 Hubs for several reasons. Anyone have input or experience regarding long hubs?
Thank for the input!
James.
On one of my successful subdomains, almost all the hubs are 1,000 words or more, some nearer 3000.
Only one or two hubs are less than 700 words, and they do not garner the traffic the others do, so yes I would say longer hubs do better.
I'm not so sure about a 5 or 6k hub though. Do people have the patience to read through that many words?
Even my most successful longer hubs do not get a long viewing time, which suggest that people are searching for a specific answer which they then find on the page under its heading, then leave.
I guess it depends also then on whether or not your planned hubs answer questions, or are they short stories?
It is basically a Hub Tutorial that answers a question yes.
In that case, a really long hub could become a reference source in itself, one that hubbers will refer to often.
If written for HP I have no idea how it would do outside of HP, but it should do well inside it.
It is easier for hubbers to refer to one hub only that answers all their questions, that to hop around different hubs trying to find answers.
Good luck with it
This makes a lot of sense.
Just to add my two cents, my most successful hubs are longer than shorter, some in the 3-4,000 word range. Word length in and of itself does not account for whether a reader will stay or bounce; what matters is what you do with those words.
I would say it is a toss up based on keywords....and interest. That is what pulls people to your page. I would have to say that my average of 1000 give or take has been the best performers for me. That is just per my hubs and what I see in my stats.
Flesh it out a little bit more and publish it as an eBook.
I wish. lol. but the word Hub appears in the title and content. but otherwise, great idea!
I tend to write longer hubs. I'm not sure how long my longest one is, but it's probably 4k. My best performer is between 3k and 4k. Though I don't pay the attention to SEO that I probably should, I have fairly good page views. You can always just publish it as one whole hub, then watch it for a while to see how the bounce rate compares with your shorter hubs. If it's too awful, you could break it into two or more hubs.
Hi
I tend to write very long hubs ~ probably too long. Some readers have suggested breaking them into smaller articles, but I like to feel that each piece of work is 'complete'.
The scores have been ok, and I have had very positive responses, but I am guessing that many people don't read the whole of my hubs
If it is the sort of page that people may only want to read part of; I had read that there was a way of creating a list that took you to the relevant part of the article. Not sure if it is still possible to do that now, or even how it worked. If it is possible it might be a good idea to have it on such a long page.
Yes a table of contents. Darkside wrote a great hub on that. http://darkside.hubpages.com/hub/tableofcontents
Thanx 4 The feedback, All.
I did some further internal research that returned a positive.
Am going l o n g .

I read the above quote on another thread and was wondering if anyone here can confirm that this is the case. Do you have long hubs, over 800 words? Are they doing well as far as Google traffic goes?Should I try to keep my hubs under 800 words?

I wrote a hub on swimming pools that's around 1000 words. And a lot of my videogame hubs are above 500 words. Since my return on HubPages, I've wanted to know something. Are 500-600 word hubs enough or are they now considered poor? I'm asking this because originally a writer did not need to get...

There are several hubs about the benefits of both long and short hubs. But, I'm curious as to what you guys prefer to read. The longer ones that contain tons of detail, that could be spread amongst several smaller hubs. ORThe shorter, more concise hubs that tend to answer a specific question about a...
