... although I don't know if I'll actually have time to reach thirty before the holidays eat me.
I thought I'd give my SEO skills a good workout and create a brand-new niche account, then see if I can build thirty quality hubs that pull in search traffic within a reasonable span of time.
I'm going to shoot for 150 visitors a day. Should be easy enough to hit that long-term, but I'm not sure how long it'll take for new hubs to be indexed and start drawing traffic.
Since I'm trying to focus on search traffic, I'm going to avoid Simone's rule about "Tell your friends, family, and followers..." save for the Tweets I use at the outset of publication to help my new pages get crawled.
I'll post the niche account name here once the first hub has cleared the dreaded Noindex Zone. The niche will be Lord of the Rings and Hobbit geekery. That's a fairly high-competition niche, since the web is currently flooded with fan pages, hype, news and swag for the new films.
This is also a test to see if it's still taking 2-3 weeks for Google to crawl new hubs. If I can't overcome that barrier, I may abandon this project.
Good luck
I'm finding some new hubs aren't indexed within a month.
Good Luck! I wish there was more talk about Tolkien's other works as well. He had many unfinished stories, one of them being my childhood favorite, Narn i Chîn Húrin, which has since been edited and made into a full-blown novel called The Children of Húrin. I only read the original versions in the Silmarillion and elsewhere, but it was really magical back then.
Don't worry, I'll be covering the real thing as well as Peter Jackson's alternate universe fanfiction version.
My favorite is Fall of Gondolin in Book of Lost Tales 2. I wish to goodness that Tolkien had gone back and finished it. Elrond's grandmother Idril is one of my favorite characters.
Yeah, Turgon did well in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. He's like my favorite elf, for some reason.
Too bad I can't read your Hubs as they are getting unpublished as soon as they appear. Besides, I'm not allowed to read as I'm not organic traffic, and the name of the account is being kept from me.
Oh, I'll post the name here once I've got hubs out of dodge, I'm just not gonna do the part of the challenge where we solicit all our friends and family to come visit.
(And le hannon for the encouragement! You have good taste in characters. There's a few other old Tolkien fans, here, btw; BrainyBunny for one.)
I discovered something interesting: when you start a new account, the profile fills in the "Hub Spotlight" slots with your first new hubs even while they're pending. Which probably means Google saw that hub with its noindex tag before the moderator pulled it. Drat.
If Simone recommends this, I believe she is doing it to get those friends and family to join the site.
So now I know how to say thanks in elvish. ahahah... Le hannon for that.
Let's hope they didn't. I'm not keeping up with recent developments re HubPages, but Google seems pretty slow in crawling HP these days. Since they initiated sleeping/idle hubs out of the blue, I trust them a little less. And not enough to publish hubs any more. Whilst I don't debate it has proved a good move, I prefer putting my stuff where I can control its future.
Anyway, I will shut up now, as you probably just want to share your experience with the new venture in this thread.
Hahahahaha!
Oh, Hubpages, you're too funny.
The first hub was flagged by a moderator and unpublished because it had to do with Gambling, Weapons, or Alcohol.
Well, I did mention Bilbo's sword Sting somewhere in that article!
I guess I'll cross off my plans to do a hub surveying the oh-so-purty movie prop replicas. A pity, as I think a Legolas bow was about the first Amazon item I ever sold on my own website.
Drat. I need to put my "30 hubs" challenge on hold for a bit.
My challenge here was precipitated by this post and the thread around it. I quote:
Emphasis mine.
"Page1 SEO Tactics" was boasting about a hit count of 285 over 6 weeks, with 20% of that search traffic. Meaning 57 visitors.
But I've now realized that "Page1 SEO Tactics" only has 5 hubs. So if I build all 30 now, it won't be an equivalent test. Even if I divided my traffic by 6 it wouldn't be a fair test, because cross-links from more hubs = more SEO = more visitors.
I will post the challenge account's username and URLs after I've beaten Page 1 SEO's challenge or failed, but I gotta wait.
For the record, my first hub for the challenge was featured on Nov 30, and has 161 visitors from Hubpages + Flickr, 6 search visits so far. Which is rather more than the "1 or 2 a week" mentioned in the OP, but we'll see how it goes.
Note to self:
I posted my first hub for the challenge on Nov 28, although it wasn't featured until Nov 30.
I worked on the challenge for 8 days and wrote 7 hubs.
When I start again, I have 22 days to write and hit "publish" on 23 hubs.

I have had the lowest earnings from since the time I first made anything on HubPages as of late. I took a look through the forum and couldn't find reference to others having the same problem. What I'd usually make in one day, all of a sudden it is taking me a week to make. Is anyone else getting...

And indeed my hub rating, after doing something with my hubs.It may seem like stating the obvious, but I went through all of hubs and put the absolute maximum number of tags that I could before it said "you have too many tags" or whatever it says. When it said that I had too many tags I...
