just wondering , with these hard times more and more people don't have the christmas funds this year and I have a few suggestions I may write a hubb about how to have a happy christmas with a family of four for , like 400 bucks but was wondering if that would be too much
I spend on average between 1500-2000 per year in 'normal' years-meaning when the money is there. I forewarned my family that this year-everyone would get a present but it would be like a 10 dollar present except my four kids-they get like $100-150 each. This year I will spend between 5-7 hundred total. Times are tough...
If you only count gifts 2000-3000 but theres meals out, movies, shows, bowl tickets, airfare and walking around money. We usually spend about double of what we spend on summer vacation.
We spend about $4,000 on Christmas. This includes gifts, food, and donations to charity. We did cut out our Christmas trip to the mountains this year. Hopefully, we can take the grandkids in Jan. or Feb. when it snows there.
this is the first 'frugal' Christmas in a few years. mostly out of respect for these lean times, i think. it doesn't feel right spending a lot of money this year, so gifts are fewer. nice, but fewer. ![]()
i think $400 for a family of four sounds right, if you throw in decorations, cards, wrap, food and stuff like champagne, etc.
that adds up in a hurry!
I usually end up spending about $50 to $100 per person. So, $400 for a family of four sounds reasonable.
Since my son in only a couple months old and times are lean this year instead of buying presents I bought prizes for christmas games I am playing, and made little treat bags. This way everyone gets (Wins) something but I can spend waaaay less. Hundreds less in fact.
