Accused of plagertism-who do I appeal it to?

   I've been fighting the plagiarism battle for 3 days. I wrote several different articles and was accused of plagiarism( 2 of my first 3). I'm not sure who makes that call, but these are original content, written by me. I use several pen names. I think it would be easy to clear up, but there doesn't seem to be a mechanism to contact an administrator. One is "Obesity-No One Wants to Talk About it!"
   I spent a lot of time and effort on that article. It would be nice to be able to visit with my accuser. This may seem like a tempest in a tea pot, as duplicate content isn't banned. But, to me, this is a direct attack on my ethics.
   
   Any suggestions?  Is this the wrong place to post this?
   BTW, if you have a dispute from Ezine Articles, as I did once...you are allowed to email the administrator to plead your case. In my particular case, it was a pen name issue and I received an apology from Ezine.

      Have you been accused of plagiarism, or have you been flagged for duplicate content?
      
      They are two different things.
      
      HubPages requires unique content.  If the article already appears elsewhere on the internet, regardless of whether you were the author or not, that's not acceptable on HubPages.  Does that make more sense now?

   did you write that hub someplace else before publishing it on HubPages? i just did a quick check with Copyscape and the content is at other sites... ?

   here is what it states in the need help guide:
   
   
   My hub has been flagged for duplicate content, what does that mean?
   
   Your hub's content has been detected on another site and has incurred a HubScore penalty as a result. You are allowed to post content on HubPages that is also published elsewhere, like your own site or blog - but you cannot place any promotional links on that hub.  Only you can see the alert message at the top of your hub and a pattern of publishing duplicate content will negatively affect your HubScore, as we like to reward authors who publish content unique to our site. It does not matter whether or not you are the original author of this content.
   
   If your Hub is truly unique to HubPages or simply quotes another Web page in a reasonable manner, please request a review of the hub by clicking on "learn more" at the top of the hub. An exception is typically granted only when quoting is done to a minimum, or some commonly-used, public domain, or historical phrases have triggered the duplicate content detector. If your hub has been certified as original by the administrator it will appear at the top of the hub. Once certified as original no HubScore penalty will be applied.

   Okay, feel free to correct me if I am wrong here, but this is how it appears.
   
   You first published your obesity hub around eight days ago on the profile you posted this forum question with, it is cached in Google still.
   
   However the exact same text of your hub appears on another website which was published in January 2010.
   
   When do you claim to have written this article? Because it does seem a little suspicious from where I am standing as an unaffiliated third party.

      the other site you found has the same exact profile picture in the "about me' section as the hubber who started the thread.
      
      
      as rebekkah pointed out, you can in fact publish "your" duplicate content here at hubs...all of us will tell you its rather pointless, a simple rewrite does wonders...but that aside is NOT against TOS...but it is penalized and outboundlinks are not allowed.
      
      So, OP... 1. Just rewrite it. 2. If your article was actually "flagged" than you can communicate to an admin as is clearly explained in the message you recieve..(team@hubpages.com)

      I wrote my first article in December of 09. I think I see where this is going. If it appears on one of my websites, even though I wrote it, it's considered duplicate content. If it's on any of the article directories like Buzzle, GoArticles, Article Alley, etc. it's still considered duplicate copy.
      
      I think where went off the tracks was the "duplicate" copy versus "hi-jacked" (plagiarized)  copy. I take pride in my copy and don't use other peoples work. However, I do submit to several of the larger article directories.
      
      As I now understand it, I can improve my scores and get outbound links  by re-writing. I have dozens of good articles that it would be a shame to waste the research and thought that went into them. So I'll try to re-word them for Hub Pages.
      
      I am serious about Hub Pages and want to be a good member. If I wasn't serious, I'd just bail and forget it.

   Ahh sorry, my mistake, I missed the fact that it was the same profile!
   
   But yeah duplicate content never works out, it is best to write unique work for every article you do!
   
   (I was in a bit of a bad mood so snapped a little in a few threads, I have just done an ausdit on a load of my articles, and hubs, and it appears that I either need to find the owners of all 176 websites and send out DMCA notices, or simply break down and cry.  I haven't even finished the audit yet but I don't know truely if I can be arsed.)
   
   I also noticed one of my hubs had been copied down to a T, but the new tool to find people who have copied your work had not picked it up, even though it was published in December!

      Two years ago, I had a Hub where all the content got lifted and reposted on about 200 sites within about 12 hours thanks to the sad reality of bloggers.  I rewrote what I had here, as the thought of sending that many NOIs made me ill.  My article was stolen because the topic was "hot" at the time and two days later my reworked Hub got 30,000 pageviews. 
      
      See if you can spin any of what happened in your favor....

         Heh it's tempting, but these are copyright infringements on dozens of articles across a wide range of my websites as well as Hubpages.
         
         It would be a lot of work to redo it all, sometimes it's easier just to drop it.  I have one major copyright infringement that I am defiantely going to go after, they want me to send teh DCMA notice as a letter to them though, so i am going to post it off when I get in to America, rather than pay postage from England.
         
         With an emmigration, a marriage, a legal battle with an electricity supplier, and a new appartment to contend with in the next month and a half this is really the last thing I want to be dealing with!

      It's a worry the new tool didn't pick up the duplicate - I've been blithely trusting it, maybe I shouldn't!

   Most of the time I jsut randomly Google paragraphs, it's surprising how often that picks things up.
