The message shown below just appeared when I clicked on my account.
Not sure how big it is. That normal? A new feature? Or a glitch? I can't remember seeing an announcement about questions appearing almost as a headline in our accounts.
Thanks
Hi Frogdroping,
Congratulations - you are the first person to notice this new feature that we are experimenting with!
One of our goals right now is to improve the experience of people using the Answers service on HubPages. To that end, we have started highlighting new questions that you might be interested in on the "My Account" page. If this bothers you, then you can simply click the "X" on the question and it will disappear.
Hopefully it will bring a question or two to your attention that you will enjoy answering!
An easy button to flag the question on this screen would be useful also rather than just answer or remove.
I saw this earlier on my dashboard, and the question displayed was about as inappropriate a suggestion for me as I could imagine. Will there be a way to opt out of this experience if we so choose? Or a way to indicate that the questions being suggested are an extremely poor match if we can't opt out?
Was it something along the lines of "Who's the biggest pot head you've ever known who's also managed to hold down a responsible, high-paying job?"
I was so desperate to make this question go away, I actually answered it ("I've never known any pot heads with responsible jobs. I haven't actually known that many pot heads, tbh. I have obviously led a very sheltered life.")
I second this idea.
Sadly, it was a question that was even more inane than that one.
From my experiences during the 20 years I lived in CA, I could write a "who's who" book about three inches thick to answer the question you got.
I thought I was special; the only one to be asked fine questions. Dang.
Well, as they say I'm "unique, just like everyone else".
Ok it's now gone.
Instead, when trying to edit a hub, all I've got is the ability to write something and add capsules. Where did everything else go?
You guys doing something in the engine?
Edit:
Below -
Double edit: It's back again, the original thing.
Many things have been moved to the sidebar. See the box below the "add capsules" box. If you want to change the title, click on it to edit it.
Oh Fawntia - I have nothing available. Only what you can (just about) see in my pic. I rather like being able to write my own intro, decide whether to change the title, add Kontera (not that I use it), group my hubs.
All that has vanished.
I just clicked on my account and a saw a question directed for me.
it definitely gets the attention if we miss it somewhere else.
oh, I see. I just saw the other response. yes, that's rather nice. thanks HP.
Sorry I didn't explain myself better! Look at the gray box beneath the "add a capsule" box. See how there are links that say tags / reorder / settings / summary / group? All the stuff that used to be at the top of the HubTool is now there, except for the ability to change the Hub title. To change the Hub's title, hover over it (it will turn yellow) and click on it. Then you can type the new title and hit enter when done.
Does that make sense?
Yes yes, thank you. I needed to put my glasses on. Great - looks really streamlined and more user-friendly.
Well done guys - and sorry for the confusion. I'm so used to seeing it as it was, I couldn't see the woods for trees
There are tiny tabs in the sidebar where you see the tags. It got better, I think.
"What is this HP?"
It is about time that this got clarified...
"HP" does not really mean "HubPages". That is a ruse.
"HP" really means "Higher Power".
Ok guys - thank you for the speedy reply
I wasn't flapping so much as wondering if I was special
May I suggest that you somehow figure out how to match a question with a hubbers hubs? There may be more potential for an answer then.
The left side now locks in place and the "add" tool is more visible. Gives the page an interesting look.
Edit: Sorry, I am talking about inside the edit mode.
Just an FYI to the Higher Power (HP):
When I clicked on the Reorder tab and then the Reorder Now button, an erroneous warning message came up informing me that I was about to exit the edit page (among other things). The good news is that it did not follow through on the "threat".
I third the opt-out suggestion. This is just another one of those annoying things that I'm never, ever, ever going to use. It's particularly irrelevant and annoying for those of us who are HubGreeters, btw.
There is an opt-out feature. On the right hand side of the box that contains the question is an "X". Clicking it will remove that question and will cause you to not see another question for 24 hours.
So if I understand what you are saying correctly, there isn't actually an opt-out. Instead users will be bothered by a prompt once per 24 hours if they don't want to participate in this feature.
What a horribly broken system you seem to be developing. I've not even hardly tried it, and already I hate and dread the enforced participation that is going to result from this.
lol, thats not an opt out.
How about a flag addition? get these crap questions gone quick?

[_________Question BOX_________]
{ANSWER} {FLAG} {DISMISS}
^--- Like That? Easy and Intuitive
Also, even if it doesnt get flagged, a question that gets "dismissed" n times, should be dropped from rotation
They want the questions answered. Why would they do that?
When I click on the X nothing happens, the question stays there
response removed because cant figure out a nice way to say that the questions are mostly idiotic.
They are. I see some dross. It could do with a dust round.
The Answers section at HP has singlehandedly proved wrong the age old adage that "There is no such thing as a Stupid Question"

Do you have an idea for a new subdomain name that Google would immediately become ecstatic over? Needless to say, don't mention one that you, yourself, would want to use.Serious, humor, and word association are encouraged here. Never know just what might lead to a true insight for someoneBoth broad...

Ok, so since the Penguin update I have sat here listening to lots of Hubbers complain of loss of traffic. Now we're not talking a little fluctuation in numbers, we are talking 80% gone overnight! For people who use Hubpages as a form of income, this is a serious issue. Up until...

I know this isn't a suggestion for a new feature, I'm suggesting the removal of one, but this seemed the best category for my post and the most likely location for it to be seen by a staff member. Can we all think back to January of 2011 when Hubpages traffic was decimated by the original Panda...

I really like the new Q&A feature on individual hubs. What I'd like to know is if there's a way to delete a question if it's inappropriate? For example, I have one now. Let's say the hub is about apple pies, their origin and history, and the question is 'What is apple?' That's just a made up...

*apologies if in the wrong sub-forum*It's a very very simple question. I'm not supposing the answer is equally simple. I'm kinda hoping that if an answer is forthcoming, no one is (HP team/hubbers) going to say 'if you don't like it you can pack up and go'. Enforcement coupled with high-handedness...
