SSK - Is a technique to decrease in your your stitches.
Typically it is done knit facing (not purl) and would work off your needles like this:

Insert working needle (the one your stitches are moving to) into holding needle (the one your old stitches are sitting on) and slip the first stitch as if you were going knit it.

Essentially moving it to the next needle with out pulling a loop of yarn through it.

Do this one more time so you have TWO stitches on your needle that are not knitted.

Take your holding needle and inset through BOTH stitches on your working needle, and knit them. It will odd because they are on the "other" needle now but with some practice you will be doing them and more complex stitches!

A great youtube video to see it in action - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGwcYW3GG3M
