What next for video games?
They have improved the graphics, tweaked the sound, added more devices, made you a controller, added 3 D , expanded online play ... Where will video games go next? Let your imagination run wild.
I think the best things that could happen for the video game industry would be:
1.No more DRM!
2.EA Games goes bankrupt.
seriously what your problem with EA people, because mass effect had a bad ending and required dlc poeple a bitching at EA.
What about Zynga that spam poeple wall and use every psycology trick to get poeple to play there game and pay big buck for vir
Now, now children . Play nice. Despite being compared to the Dark Empire EA has down a lot for game industry also.
@jackofspade i don't care about the ending from Mass Effect. These imbeciles closed Westwood! They treat their employees like scum! They make the same game over and over again for years(Fifa) and sell at huge prices. That's my problem. And i don't li
that in 2003 man but yet that was really stupid on there part. At least now they stopped renaming the studio after they bought them.
I think you'll see publishers focusing a lot more on the social/network side of games in the immediate future as they try to find the best ways to keep you 'hooked' and paying for more content. Microtransactions, subscriptions, DLC, etc., are really just starting to shake out now so expect to see a lot more of that.
As far as 'how will games get better now that graphics are so good?' goes, I think the next area developers need to concentrate on is AI: making NPCs act and react more realistically. Hi-poly, normal and specular-mapped NPCs that don't do anything but blink, breath, and head-track have got to go. That means more detailed and varied 'patrol' routines, more animations, and more dialogue options. Games look good enough: players want to become emotionally invested in a game, and that's easier to do if you can trick yourself into thinking those bots are real people.
1- mobile device game will get to a level the console game are now
2- your mobile phone will be the controller to play on your tv (already the case with apple tv & xbox with window phone)
3- more and more game will go free to play and use dlc, micro transaction to monetize the game.
4- they will be cheaper, most game will only be downloadable via the web or platform like steam, apple store, origin etc making it very cheap and easier to distribute.
5- cross promotion via social network, games will be integrated with more social network feature, making it easier to invite your friend , brag your score etc
7- more game will be directly in your browser, making downloading the game and content faster and bring your directly in the action.
6- play via mobile, console, web, pc the same game making you able to play your favorite game on the bus and at home. (note that they are trying to bring a Wow client on mobile...)
Wow- comprehensive and erudite. Are you doing a degree on gaming? ;-)
I follow closely the industry and blog about here : http://onlinesgamestips.com/ For now it check mostly mobile and online game company.
