Can you control what you dream? Can we set the scene for our dreams before we go to sleep?

Was just wondering..Does anyone know if you can say in your mind for example, "I want to dream I'm flying and have super powers" or anything else dream worthy, like having money to do anything you want, being a rock star, whatever floats your boat. Do we have the ability to guide our dreams?

I've had "continuing dreams" before, they're sort of strange. Basically what happens is I'm dreaming up a story until I'm rudely interrupted by the alarm clock; when I go back to bed, the dream continues from where I left off. Mind you, I don't seem to have any control how it ends. I always seem to get myself killed over and over again.

No, I donĀ“t believe we do!  However, I have flown in my dreams and was able to control my flight and enjoy it at the same time.  Happy dreams.

Sometimes when I wake in the morning, during a good dream, I can fall back asleep and continue the dream and lucidly control what happens. This is fleeting. I wonder if it is something that can be honed? I've read about goggles that flash images before you sleep, but don't know if they work

No we can't control our dream and not even guide it. Because when we sleep we do not what exactly happen that start dreaming. Some times we saw some recognize faces and some times we saw some unknown people with whom we never meet in our life.

We do not even know what we are going to dream tonight. So in my opinion we can not control or guide our dreams. Its spontaneous..

Well not always but yes sometimes when you are thinking about something before going to bed or probably watching some sequeunce or movie on tv , then maybe the dreams would be somehow related to it. This has happened to me lot of times

I can't say that its controlled but if you're really into something, surely you're going to dream about it that night. The thing is we don't always remember what we dreamt. Do you remember what you dreamt the last time you slept? I don't.  But just last week I had a dream about hub pages :-):-):-). About an idea of what to write on next. I am writing it and will be publishing a series of 3 articles together :-)

This sounds a lot like lucid dreaming. You can train yourself to be aware of when you dream. This awareness then enables you to choose what you do in your dream.

That's just a basic explanation, but if you're interested in the subject, there have been many articles written about it.

I've tried to do it several times, but it requires a lot of practice!

I think you can, but I don't think it would be consistent and it would probably take a lot of practice. I'm not sure what kind of practice, but dreams come out of our subconscious and they are often snippets of something that we have experienced or thought of during the day. At times, I can wake up and wonder why I had a particular dream. If I think about it before I loose the dream, I can trace the origin. That's the reason I think you can at least create the loose plot of your dream.

Yes. You can control your dreams. This is called Lucid Dreaming. It takes time to master the skills to lucid dreaming and everyone has different triggers. When I was a child, I was quite skilled at this, but as I've grown older, it becomes more difficult for me to do this.

As a child, I would control my dreams (make doors appear and make a milk crate appear--I used this to fly). Before slipping into a dream, I always knew how my dream would begin, however I could never control the middle of the dream, other than creating doorways/passages and my trusty milk crate.

There are many articles (and classes) on lucid dreaming. I would check out those.

I think we can have an influence on what we dream but I dont feel that we can control our dreams totally. I have noticed that if I think about something before I go to sleep and it is the last thing that I think about before I close my eyes then it ends up being what I dream about. I have even thought about a person until I went to sleep and they ended up being in my dreams.

LOL! like the question. I was sometimes questioning myself about dreams. Do we set our own story in the dreams and the way what it turned out at the end of the story?

To me, dreaming is subconscious. What we want to be in our actual life can be manifested in dreams. It is sometimes very worthwhile dreaming the things you wanted to have and wanted to become. Even in our dreams we can obtain the success and wants we craved for in our actual lives.
