Where do you think true happiness stems from?

"Happiness" is a a awesome benefit in many ways of feeling that moments in life are worth living, but where does this cool thing come from, is it part of the mind, coming from the heart, the spirit or what. Please try to briefly express your thoughts on its true origins in all things, or simply explain what you feel truly makes you happy.

Being true to one's self. I believe that absolute honesty to self brings about happiness when it is coupled with positive actions.

True happiness comes from within one's person, rather than from external circumstances or material goods -- provided that one is above the poverty level and is in good health that is.

Totally agree that happiness comes from within. For me it's a spritual thing; I feel that I have true joy in my heart and this joy is a gift from a higher being.

The thing with being happy is that you are only happy in a moment --  people, possessions, situations, whatever it maybe are the 'things' which make you happy. Whilst joy presents itself on a different level, a much deeper level which is forever within you regardless of your life situation.

    That's my 2 cents worth anyway ...

Happiness is the joy you feel in your heart. It has a direct link to contentment and satisfaction. Contentment and satisfaction comes from good accomplishments.
A rich person cannot be happy if he is not satisfied with the results of his accomplishments, but a poor person can be happy if he is satisfied with what he had done for the day and earn a little income.

So this is the anatomy;   if you accomplished something and you feel satisfied then you are happy, but if you didn't find satisfaction in what you had accomplished you are not to be called happy

True happiness comes from within. A sense of well-being and all is right with the world. To me it is not about material possessions of any kind but a spiritual connection to others from the inner reaches of our being.

I love the way you stated this question.
I believe that happiness comes from within and from being consciously aware of, and also accepting, our true self.
On a personal basis, I feel the greatest happiness and well-being when I am in nature either alone, or with someone I love.

Happiness springs from the heart...Yet, it takes someone to shed all the shells of resentment, hate, anger, sadness, that cover our heart in order to be truly happy...That's why going back to the inner self is an essential part of finding true happiness...Or else it is just like a resounding gong, empty, hapless...

Happiness is a combination of feelings in all those areas. I don't think your mind can be happy if your heart isn't and vice versa. And just a little side note— seeing someone smile sends a flood of endorphins to the brain and helps make others happy, even if they don't detect it automatically. Smiling literally brightens someone else's day! That's why I love to smile at people, I want to make their day better. Anyway for myself, my family and siblings make me SO happy. They're just indescribably fantastic and nothing makes me happier than seeing them when they come home from college or far away. It's the best feeling in the world to hear their voices and know they're home.

I believe happiness is being comfortable in your skin. It is knowing what your core values are and sticking to them. It's only when we go against our core values that we feel unhappy. An example would be lying. One of your core values might be to always be honest.

Another core value may be to be a good friend. Sometimes life gives us difficult choices which tests our core values. A friend may come to you and ask you to lie for them. This puts you in turmoil.

Do you be a good friend and lie or go against your values and lie in order to be a good friend?

The ultimate question is 'would telling a lie actually help them in the long run?'. Probably not so the decision is made for you, by not telling a lie you're sticking to your core values and teaching your friend that lying won't help overall. You'll be able to sleep easy knowing you made the right choice.

I think thinking things through and staying true to our own values allows us to be and stay happy.

True happiness comes from within yourself, you cannot expect others to bring you happiness that will make you feel whole.  I think once you are happy with yourself and where you are, then other parts of your life start to fall into place and become 'easier' to be happy with, you are then happier with your relationship, you are happier with what you have in your home etc.

Happiness comes from the conversations we have in the quite of our mind. Happiness can "stem from" anywhere, if its all around us, always and for ever.. so if its always there, then its the same as a room without a light on, is there anything in the room? Turning on the light does not "produce" the things in it, in the same way that looking for happiness doesn't make you happy. Its a matter of being in the state that allows you to gather it from all around.
Thanks for make us all focus more on what we want and less on what we don't..
    Hugs

When you stop expecting from others.

When you stop bothering yourself with other people's issue and concentrate more on your own life.

When you make your spouse, your family ,your priority and stop living for others .

I HOPE ALL THESE THINGS CAN DEFINITELY GIVE A PERSON AN UNEXPLORED HAPPINESS. smile

Happiness stems from being content and at ease with life, which comes from not being afraid to be who you are or standing by what you believe in. I think happiness becomes easier as we get older as we become more content with age.

True happiness comes from a place of being content with yourself in yourself. It comes from within, money won't bring it and no one else can bring it at least happiness that will last.

I think happiness comes from striking a balance in your life - a balance between having goals and striving for them, and appreciating what you have and where you are in life.

One of my fondest memories is the first apartment my husband and I had when we got married. It was tiny, but it was ours. We had goals and wanted to someday own a house and get a dog, etc.; but we took the time to enjoy that stage of our life.

When balance is achieved in you life according to your priorities, I believe the resulting "order" in your brain results in happiness.

I believe the day we notice that being happy is a personal responsability and our choice; we become free to choose our attitude towards the environment. Nobody and nothing external can make us happy (at least not constantly). To me happiness comes from doing your best every day even in the worst circumstances. This was a wonderful provoking question that really made me meditate.

    Peace of mind I think.
When my mind (spirit) is at peace, then I feel an openness to all - which feels wonderful.  I accept things exactly the way they are, for that brief moment.
It is rare because being human, I'm bothered by so much.
But it's not impossible, especially when I try to 'stop' the churning of the mind and manage to 'live in the now', and with love.
    Or,
Sometimes I feel happiness take over!  Then, when this happens, I fly as though I'm on the wings of a bird in heavenly 'world'- with happiness.  That's a gift.
That's been give to me.  I did nothing for it.
I recognize that it's a present for my spirit and I love it.
Life's so fabulously mysterious isn't it?
    I like this question.

    Gratitude.

That's because the challenges we face, the disappointments, and even tragedies do not prevent some of us from being happy.  There is always something for which to be grateful--even if it's in our past, not the painful present we find ourselves in.  When we focus on that, we acknowledge the gifts we've received, without particularly deserving them.  We place ourselves in an active stance by choosing.  And we experience again the pleasure that those gifts brought us.

There are many things giving rise to the elusive bird called happiness, I suppose.  But gratitude is one we underestimate most of the time--more durable, and more satisfying, than we commonly think.

From a sociological stand point, happiness comes from a stable, well balanced, life-- in a stable, well balanced, community. However, true happiness can never be gained if your goal is to be happy. I think that by surrounding yourself with good, positive people, and acting out of pure selflessness you will be happy, because you will forger that you were ever sad.

True happiness also described as "Happiness without a cause" comes from the soul whereas Excitement comes from the mind.  This is why we feel happy when we do things which bring us nearer to our soul while we feel excited when the mind gets its cravings . For example when you are with someone you love you feel happy because love is the food for the soul. Being alone in a beautiful natural place and having inner reflection or listening to sweet melodies can also help one to experience this true happiness. However deep selfless prayer or meditation are the best ways to elicit and experience this true happiness and when you get it, you actually don't need any external things to make you happy. Constant practice of these means of eliciting this true happiness can eventually help you to always live in this true happiness.
