   How do you keep your children safe from predators without making them paranoid about people?
   
   We live in a small country town where we tend to take safety for granted more than we should.  Today the News had a story about a predator who has been approaching girls here the past few days.  I understand people now being shaken and upset, but people are talking about how they can't let their children ride bikes anymore etc. and I find it an overreaction.  If we teach our children how to be safe - they should still be allowed to live life and have fun.  How do we best instill caution without paranoia?

   I think it is next to impossible .  Predators seem to be mulitplying like rabbits and becoming more and more bold.  I thin if we really become a village where parent, grandparents and concerned adults watch out for each others children it will help.  Watch them, teach them, help them develop a confidence about themselves and let them know they can come to you about anything and then pray that the paranoia will come up at just the right moment. 
   
   What I would love to do is line them all up (predators) and throw spit balls at them---really big spit balls. LOL

   Kids these days seem to be so oblivious to the world around them, or they think they are invincible and that nothing bad could ever happen to them. I may sound crazy but maybe that's because I'm military, but kids need to be pulled aside and taught situational awareness and self-defense. My man is in the USMC and teaches his two young children (8 and 12) basic self-defense techniques, and I'm not talking about silly Karate, I'm talking about Krav Maga and Jiu-Jitsu. I am learning too. And these are things they can take with them as they get older, because adults are targeted by predators, too!
   You may be thinking how little children are going to fight off a predator that's over twice the size of them, but if you educate yourself about Krav Maga, it teaches that your size and strength doesn't matter..it's all about technique. I'm only 130 lbs and I was able to take down my man, who is 180 lbs of pure muscle, in less than 5 seconds.
