   The first thing I'd say contributes to growing old disgracefully is trying to dress like a kid. Age is physically obvious and a mini-skirt not only looks foolish on an old person but is akin to too much flashy makeup. The second thing that contributes to growing old disgracefully is a loud and profane mouth -- not good on a young person but horrible on a senior citizen. The third thing that contributes to growing old disgracefully is an overbearing attitude toward younger people and/or being a "know-it-all." Finally, in my opinion, there's nothing more unattractive and contributes to growing old disgracefully more than a drunk. All drunks are irritating but falling down and speech slurring old people are disgusting at best. Ageing is a challenge at best but can be handled with dignity and good judgment.

      You're absolutely right. I've heard that Age is only a number, its only a state of mind.
      You were right about the "know-it-all", i slither away when they would say " I'm old and you're young and i know better".

   Wow, what a great question.  Unlike Angela I prefer to look at this as though my glass is half full rather than half empty.  Advancing years does indeed bring its challenges but also advantages:
   
   1.  Firstly, I no longer have to prove I'm good at what I do.  There are many years of track record to look back on that does that.  Not that I'm complacent, I still have to work hard at staying ahead of the game.
   
   2.  I much more comfortable in my own skin these days.  Greater experience brings greater confidence and a degree of wisdom.  There are very few new things in this world and if you wait long enough you'll recognise the same ideas coming around again.  It's not a case of being overbearing, merely the benefit of being older.  We've been there and done that.  We can still learn from the younger generation and that must be acknowledged but don't discount the value of what we can teach them.
   
   3.  I no longer bother so much about what other people think about me.  I love riding motorcycles so that's what I do simply because it makes me happy.  The people who mind don't matter and the people who matter don't mind.
   
   At the end of the day it's about realising you can't be responsible for other peoples happiness, only your own.  Their happiness is their responsibility.   You only have one life so live it.  Do what makes you happy and make the most of it no matter what anybody else thinks.

      I don't think Angela came off as negative-- she made some good points. I'm almost 70 and I don't care who wants to ride a motorcycle. I think my glass is more than half full, though I don't have to drink all of it if I don't want to.

      Maybe not negative Angela but not, in my book anyway, positive.  I believe we create what we think and as such if we think about the things we don't want then that is what we get. So we should think more about what we do want.
